Library News

We are in the midst of a busy Term 2 in both the primary and secondary libraries.

PRIMARY

We are currently working on re-cataloguing our fiction collection into genres in the primary library. This process of 'genrefication' allows for a more student-centred library that provides an easier way for students to search for and discover new books and authors. In an effort to promote student-led acquisitions, the primary library now houses a red letterbox which is often filled with wonderful book suggestions. Students have loved seeing their new book recommendations appear on the shelves.

We would like to remind parents and carers that we have a subscription to Story Box Library, an educational website created for children to view stories read by Australian authors and illustrators. Reading aloud to children contributes to improved language and literacy skills, and Story Box Library offers a wonderful way for children to experience the practice of storytelling.

If you require the login details for Story Box Library please contact library@pvcc.vic.edu.au

SECONDARY

One of the joys of working in the library is that of creating displays to promote books in the collection. This term we are featuring a lovely display of one of the world's most-loved and read authors - Jane Austen!

We recently subscribed to Wheeler's ePlatform for audiobooks. Secondary students can now borrow from an extensive range of audiobooks available on this platform. We often remind students that audiobooks are a fantastic form of reading. Audiobooks are portable and allow us to make reading more accessible for students that prefer this format.
