Champagnat Celebration Dinner
The Boarders celebrated Champagnat Week last week, and had a beautiful meal last Thursday night, that included dinner with the Marist Brothers community and St Augustine’s and St Monica’s staff. In celebrating Founders' Day, it is always very nice for the community to come together to unite and acknowledge the importance of this occasion.
Free Weekend
This weekend is a Free Weekend in boarding, and students whose leave requests have been approved by parents and staff are out for the weekend. They won't return until 8pm on Sunday night, or on Monday morning with approval from the respective Head of Residence. If a boarder is staying with a school friend, the family of the boarder is expected to have contacted the host family to ensure arrangements have been made.
End of Term Departures and Arrivals for Term 3
As we approach the end of Term 2, boarders who travel home by air and on buses will be planning for a smooth and timely departure. The final day of the term for both colleges is Thursday 23 June. The last day of term has always been acknowledged as a travel day for St Augustine's boarders who travel long distances home. St Monica’s have their travel day on Friday 23 June for the girls who are flying home etc. However, boarding staff appreciate that some students must leave earlier due to flight schedules. Weekly boarders are always expected to remain at school until the final lesson of the term.
If for some reason a boarder requires to leave school before the Thursday of the final week, families must submit a Request for Leave form to the day school.
In preparation for Term 3, boarding residences will open on Monday 10 July from 3pm. All boarders are expected back in residence by 8pm. Parent-teacher-student interviews for St Augustine's students will also be held on 10 July.
Can I please ask families to send in travel itineraries for airport pickups well in advance so the transport schedule can be organised. These can be sent to the Heads of Residence or to me.

Champagnat Day Awards
Congratulations to Max Lawrence, Archie Clifton, Ryan Knuckey and Ned Nancarrow for being acknowledged and receiving a Champagnat Award last Friday. These awards are nominated by homeroom teachers and are awarded to students who have displayed the Marist virtues that are spoken about at Saints.
Weekend Outings
Over the past two weekends, the boarding community has been involved in a variety of very enjoyable activities in Cairns and the surrounding areas. To break the outings up and to give the students some change, the boarders embarked on a trip to the Atherton Tablelands and spent the morning exploring Atherton, before enjoying lunch and some recreation at the Tolga Park which has recently been redeveloped.
Last weekend, the community enjoyed walking the Yellow and Red Arrow walking tracks, before having an enjoyable afternoon on the Cairns Esplanade.
Farewell to St Monica's Principal Ms Galvin
The entire boarding community extends thanks to Ms Galvin for her continued dedication to supporting all aspects of boarding life. Her presence in the community, her simple yet compassionate day-to-day interactions with boarders, and her motherly characteristics that follow Mary’s way are all a testament to her genuine passion and love for her boarding family. We really appreciate everything she has done for our community, and her hard work over the years has not gone unnoticed.
