Saints Staff & Students Helping to Make the World a Better Place

By Michael Doolan - Service Captain

Forty-seven Saints students ventured into the unfamiliar streets of Brinsmead on 27 May in the hope of raising funds for the vital work of the Salvation Army. Despite our one-week postponement, the residents of Brinsmead opened their doors, generously offering to help some of those most in need.

After our four-hour adventure around the suburb, the Salvation Army kindly treated our students and teachers to soft drinks and a sausage sizzle. An enormous thank you to the students who gave their time on the weekend and the teachers who ferried us around. A special thank you to Mrs Cross for all the leg work she did behind the scenes to make this event possible.

A massive thank you goes to the 21 Year 12 students who have volunteered for Rosies over this term, it’s great to see so many people getting out of their comfort zones to help some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Thank you also to the teachers who help facilitate Rosies each fortnight.

The fundraising total for Ride for Rosies held a few weeks ago, is finally in. We smashed our target of $7000, raising a phenomenal $9100. Thanks to Mr Elliott and all others involved for the remarkable success of this event; your work will help hundreds of people a week in the foreseeable future.

Thank you to all those who signed up for Relay for Life on 15 July. We have 55 volunteers, and I have high hopes that we can smash the current record for how much money we can raise for cancer research, and, as well, maintain our position as the reigning tug-of-war champions, following our victory against the Navy last year.

Thank you to those who have supported service around the College, We are making our world a better place.
