Saints Unplugged

Saints Unplugged Junior (Years 7-9) was held on Wednesday 24 May in McLaughlin Theatre. Our hospitality students began the evening with light meals provided in the foyer.  The Years 7-9 students performed in small groups and solo. They did a wonderful job of entertaining their appreciative audience.

The Senior Unplugged (Years 10-12) was held on the following evening. Again, our wonderful Hospitality Department provided yummy light meals for families prior to the concert. The Years 10-12s showed off their musical development. If you missed out this time, there will be another Unplugged evening for juniors and seniors in Term 4 in our new music block.

Many thanks to our instrumental music teachers and Friends of the Arts parents who helped make it a successful evening.

Champagnat Mass

As always, our wonderful musicians and cantors provide the music to make our Mass so special. It’s wonderful to hear the student body in full voice at these events. Thank you to our music students for their ongoing service to the College.

NAIDOC Week Assembly

Saints Choir provided the assembly entertainment this week. Our choir performed a beautiful Maori blessing called Kia hora te marino. As we were celebrating Indigenous culture – in particular Australia’s Indigenous culture, a blessing from our neighbours was lovely. Thank you to Mr Darveniza who stepped into Mr Burcin’s large shoes while he was on leave and also to our accompanist, Mrs Burdett.

Clashes with Instrumental Music Lessons and Assessment

This term, as with every term, there will be clashes with lessons and assessments.  Assessment always takes precedence. To minimise disruption to the visiting teachers (who are only here one day per week), students need to write their lessons into their diaries when they receive their timetables. Yes, the whole term’s worth. They receive these timetables at the beginning of the term.  When the Assessment and Excursion calendar is released (usually around Week 2 or 3), they should be writing their assessment/excursions into their diaries. At this point, they can foresee any clashes with assessment and that is the time to be contacting their IM teachers to change lesson times.

It is rarely possible to accommodate lesson time changes with 24 hours notice or less.  Remember that most of our teachers have full-day timetables and limited ability to change things around, because it means changing around other students that day as well.

Spirit of Arts Awards

Today was the last chance to apply for Spirit of Arts Awards for Semester 1. All students who participate in Music, Drama, Visual Art and Film Television and New Media are eligible to apply for an award, but will now have to apply next semester.  Handbooks and journals are available from the staffroom and we encourage everyone to participate in the scheme.

For any questions regarding the Spirit of Arts Awards not outlined in the journal, please contact me at cspannenbu@cns.catholic.edu.au.
