GRADE 1-2 UPDATE

Hello Grade 1 and 2 Community,

What a wonderfully, exuberant week it has been!

Firstly, congratulations to all the students who participated in the concert, whether that be during rehearsals the last few months, or as part of Monday’s well anticipated concert. The performances were sensational. For those students who attended the concert, thank you again for building focus and calm throughout the day, it was no easy feat.

For Reading this week we looked at procedure texts and their many different forms. Students looked at experiments, healthy recipes and methods for playing a sport. The students really enjoyed watching the experiment and were thrilled seeing what happens when recipes are not followed properly.

The students continued with procedure texts in Writing by creating a combination of healthy recipes and making ‘How to’ guides for healthy habits. It was brilliant to see just how well students recognise ways to look after themselves.

For Mathematics both classes refreshed their understanding on things previously taught throughout the year. Lauren’s class really enjoyed playing ‘Make a Square’, a game focused on visualing and strategising to be the first to, as the name suggests, make a square.

For Spelling next week the students will be focusing on the /oa/ as in boat sound in it’s many patterns. We encourage parents to help students identify these sounds when they read.

Upcoming events/reminders:

  • We once again want to thank all our families for their support in ensuring reading is practised nightly.
  • Please ensure students bring their library books to school on Wednesday so they can return and borrow books.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Lauren & Demy
