Prep Kitchen Garden

Eggs were the focus ingredient for our recipe this week so we made mini quiches which were very much enjoyed by the Prep students. They learnt how to cut out a circle of pastry using a scone cutter, place it in the tray, mix all the ingredients together and pour into each pastry case.

Eggs come from chickens so as it was a very cold day outdoors, we pivoted and made chickens using recycled materials, and made a quick visit to the chicken coop to learn about how to care for chickens.

Year 4SD Kitchen Garden

This week in the Kitchen Garden program the year 4SD students made berry muffins. With little input from the teachers the students navigated their way around following the recipe independently and cooperatively in small groups. Success is measured in the old saying "Proof is in the pudding" and judging by how they devoured the muffins, success was achieved!

To acknowledge National Recycling Week the students reused plastic bottle tops to make art work using cardboard cut offs, creating images related to kitchen, garden and the environment.

Garden helpers

This week we have had many helpers in the garden doing maintenance and helping shift the soil from the garden beds in preparation for next year. Many hands make light work - Mrs Stewart found the task made much lighter by all the help from the many students who gave up their break times to offer a helping hand. A huge thank you to you all.
