Dear Families and Friends,

As announced earlier in the week via an emailed letter to all families, over the next few months, St Justin's will be undertaking some minor refurbishments. Works will include:

  • refurbishment of the Year 1 and 2 classrooms,
  • refurbishment of the portable classrooms (currently used for Out of Hours School Care [OHSC] and Italian classes)
  • bracing the Undercover Area
  • replacing the timber stairs from the top of the basketball courts into the Year 1 and 2 classrooms (this was the original entry into the school),
  • replacing the retaining wall along the Wheeler Wing / Undercover Area, and
  • modify drainage behind the back oval.

Works will official commence next Tuesday 22nd November. In preparation, much has already been done.

  • the Italian Room and OHSC have been packed up. OHSC is now located in the PAC and Italian classes will take place in the Library and/or classrooms.
  • The portables have had a thorough clean
  • Work has commenced on relocating the garden beds outside the portables
  • The compound fence has been erected on the top basketball court - please note that during the works the path of travel between the school and the top basketball court will be fenced off. Other areas will be fenced off as required
  • Year 6 have moved into the Learning Space in the Wheeler Wing,
  • Year 1 have moved into the Year 6 classrooms,
  • Year 2 have moved to the Portables,
  • Italian will be taught in the Library / Classrooms, and
  • OHSC will relocate to the PAC.
We would love a few helpers on Saturday 19th November (tomorrow) from 1:30pm to clear and store the remaining items from the Year 1 and 2 classrooms - please let Tony know if you can help (0404 863 443).

We need to hand the classrooms over to the builders on Tuesday 22nd November - we anticipate that all works will be completed by the end of February 2023.

Moving forward into 2023:

  • The three Prep classes for 2023 will occupy the newly renovated spaces,
  • OHSC (Before and After School Care) and the Italian Room will share one of the newly renovated classrooms (see map below).
  • Year 2 will continue to be located in the portables, moving into the PAC for a period of time while the works on the portables are completed.
Please note that our Emergency Assembly Point at the front of the school will be on the netball court - this is already marked on our emergency evacuation  maps.

Whilst we are very excited to be starting our works, we are also very mindful of the need to keep things as normal as possible. We are extremely grateful that Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), Black Sheep Construct (the assigned builders) and Architecture Matters P/L (our architects) have worked so diligently to ensure our project will take place with minimal disruption to student learning. We are also extremely appreciative of all staff and students who have had to make changes to accommodate these works - it’s certainly a big task packing up rooms and moving. We wish everyone well.

As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Time to get ‘Sun Smart’

A reminder that St Justin’s is a 'Sun Smart School' and as a result, throughout October to the end of April, students are required to wear a sun protective school hat that protects the face, neck and ears. Please make sure that your child’s hat is clean, in good condition and clearly labelled. New hats can be purchased from Academy Uniforms. Students will also be encouraged to wear broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and to be responsible for its reapplication throughout the day. Students are welcome to bring their own sunscreen (not to share) or apply in the mornings before coming to school. As always, students are also encouraged to have a drink bottle.

Getting ready for 2023  OPEROO - Medical Information

We ask that you have all medical forms and Medical Authority forms filled out, up to date and uploaded to Operoo. This is especially needed in cases of emergency. Thank you!

As always, thank you for your ongoing support.

Have a great weekend.

Take care,

Mr Torpey
