Reminder of our Writer’s Festival Celebration:

This Friday we will celebrate our Writer’s Festival. We welcome family and friends to view the writing pieces that students have worked on planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing over the past couple of weeks.

Friends and family can view the pieces from 2:20pm (after lunch) on Friday in the gym. They can collect students from their classroom to view the writing pieces with them. We will then present award winners at assembly.

Literacy and Numeracy Collaborative Learning

Did you know that Collaborative Learning is a High Impact Teaching Strategy? A researcher by the name of John Hattie investigated a range of strategies that positively impact teaching and learning. He found that Collaborative Learning and peer tutoring can support students to accelerate their academic progress. Collaborative Learning occurs when students work in small groups and everyone participates in a learning task. A key element being that students work in groups that foster peer learning.

Last week our Year 5 students collaboratively planned and prepared a range of Literacy and Numeracy activities to deliver in a peer tutoring approach to our Foundation students. The activities included: dice addition maths games, Uno, Snakes and Ladders, shape pattern making, reading picture story books and completing craft, reading picture story books and completing written and pictorial text responses, card making and building. Our Year 5 students displayed excellent leadership skills and our Foundation students enjoyed their time working in different settings across the school. Here are some photos of our fun:
