The Youth Engagement program held at Griffith TAFE over 8 weeks is a great way for students at high school to engage in practical experiences, and develop their skills and knowledge in metal fabrication and engineering. This semesters diverse class of boys and girls have been busy learning about different welding processes and fabrication techniques and applying these to projects they can take home. The YES program exposes students to an engineering workshop environment where they can experience the welding trade as they consider potential career pathways in the near future.

‘CAREVAN’

To add to our compassion projects here at Marian Catholic College after providing an IT service to our local senior citizens, on Wednesday the 2nd of the November, we had staff and so many students from year's 7, 8, 9 and 10 willing to volunteer their lunch and recess to get onboard and help cook ‘FRIED RICE’ meals, to be delivered in our local areas to feed both individuals and families who felt isolated, disconnected, homelessness and food insecurity.

We here at Marian Catholic College have such a beautiful caring school community with both students and teachers working together to teach one another, that cooking wholesome meals for those struggling to provide food for themselves or families, could be very challenging and difficult. We learn and teach in becoming part of a team of community minded individuals with a sense of pride in giving back.

In the photos pictured below, shows all the faces of staff and students the positivity of how they can give can back to the community with simply volunteering their time and dedication to showing compassion to others.

Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal - Small gift, big heart

Monday, 7th of November, Kmart Griffith officially launched its iconic Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal with its founding charity partner, Salvation Army. Running both online and in-store, right through to Christmas, the appeal is Australia’s largest and longest-running gift collection drive, making a historic milestone 35 years of supporting those doing it tough in communities and across Australia.

The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal aims to create a bigger Christmas for Aussies experiencing hardship and crisis, through the delivery of gifts.

Today, our students from Marian were able to get involved and help our with our local Kmart store and their launch by supporting in singing Christmas carols, and face painting. Customers and their young bubs enjoyed the sincerity of the singing voices from the young youth. The children loved their faces painted with reminders, candycanes, care bears and most of all the delightful Christmas spirit.

I would like to thank Kmart Griffith Store Manager, Tiffany Quarisa, Operations Manager Betty and Managers, Trudy for the opportunity to help and support our local Salvation Army and the community. Our students involved were; Aotearoa Filipo, Arnika Jasnos, Mia Restagno, Janet Tapumania and Odena Tavita.
