PRINCIPAL REPORT

From the College Principal

Dear Parents and carers,

Last week our College Council ran an information night about proposed future developments for the school’s facilities.

Information about the redevelopment of the school Performing Arts Centre, as well as a proposal to construct a Global Learning Hub and Student Wellbeing Centre was presented to parents, as well as candidates for the lower house seats of Brighton and Bentleigh, and the upper house Southern Metropolitan division (which takes in Brighton). The relevant documents are available on our website under the “Community” tab.

I want to thank the many parents who turned out to hear these plans and to support the school.

I also want to thank candidates James Newbury, Felicity Frederico, Debbie Taylor-Haines and Ryan Batchelor for their attendance, interest, and support.

I am pleased to announce that James Newbury pledged to support the school to develop the Global Learning Hub and Student Wellbeing Centre, as well as fund the development of a school facilities master plan.

The total commitment he made was just over $5mil during the next term of parliament if his party is elected to government. On behalf of the College Council, I thank him for that commitment.

What became quickly evident during the meeting is that there is a strong desire on the part of our parents and carers to complete the development of the school so that all students have access to high quality, modern learning spaces, as well as good quality facilities in our school grounds for students to access during break times.

In respect to our grounds facilities, this is something we can take a least partial control over regardless of funding decisions taken by the government of the day. Whilst the school receives a very meagre grounds budget from the DET, I believe we do have a community with the skills and resources to take steps to renovate parts of our yard.

Over the coming months, please look out for opportunities to support the college in this work.

Meet and Greet

Dear parents and carers,

I invite to you participate in a meet and greet event on Wednesday 7th December from 9.00-10.30am. This coincides with our first year 6-7 transition session.

The purpose is for new parents and carers to have an opportunity to meet current parents and carers, and for all to consider joining the school’s Parents and Friends Association (PFA).

There will be a coffee truck on-site for sales from about 8.30am, and marques and seating will be set up on the front lawn near the flag-poles.

I encourage you all to join the PFA. For many years this group has done wonderful work supporting the school through fundraising and social events, but the pandemic years have not been kind to its membership.

We are looking the re-launch and reinvigorate the group. If you would like to take a more active role in the life of the school, please consider attending and joining the group.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Minack

Principal
