We had a mix of primary, secondary and uni (Swinburne) educators and family attend, as well as the Department of Education, Koorie Engagement Support Officers (KESO),  and Reconciliation Groups attend.  We also had Dean Stewart, the First Nations Ecologist, which was awesome as we’ve been working together on the gardens and healing Country education together.

We were all blown away by the Always was, Always will be Student Action Team – from helping set up, welcoming guests, sharing an acknowledgement of Country, the school tour of our Indigenous garden areas and getting our guests to taste-test the bush foods! Plus making damper for everyone and enjoying the night with marshmallows, great food, fire and conversation! We certainly had a beautiful night gathering, connecting and yarning.

We really appreciate the great feed by Stevie from Mullum Creations! It was definitely a big hit! Especially the sausage rolls and emu tacos with the relish! Some people experienced their first time eating emu. The quiches are a classic and always nice to enjoy with a salad too.

Everyone is already looking forward to the next one already.

Wominjeka Festival

Saturday 22 October 2022, 11:00am - 6:30pm

Wominjeka festival will be going ahead this Saturday rain, hail, or shine! The area along the Maribyrnong River where the festival is taking place is not flood affected.

Wominjeka Festival is an important moment of gathering for community, alongside allies. In this celebration of culture and connection we are reminded that the modern age is shaped by the oldest living culture in the world, and over the years — through colonisation — the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community remains as staunch and as vibrant as ever. Still Here Now!

A day of art, ceremony and music. For more information head to Footscray Art.
