3/4 Camp Toolangi

Student reflections

Wow, what an amazing camp the 3/4s had at Toolangi! A huge thank you needs to go out to all of our amazing parent helpers, as well as the very busy teachers. We all had so much fun, and we can’t wait for the next one!

Here are some reflections from our fabulous students:

I had a lot of trouble packing because I got very distracted during the process doing stuff. My older sister tried to help me and I finally got it done. My parents checked my bag to see if I had forgotten anything. I packed my new book called Camp, which is very convenient because we are on camp. I felt excited packing, because camp was  in a few days. I felt like I could squeal with excitement  (but I didn’t because I’d wake up my dog from his deep slumber).

When we arrived at school I felt excited. I was hot with the sun shining on my head. I was very tired  because I woke up early. I smelled the morning of a fresh spring day. I was chatting with my friends and I said goodbye to my parents and the bus arrived. I thought to myself my adventure had just begun!

When we got off the bus I got a bag and put it in the pathway and we sat down to do the roll and safety briefings. I had my lunch and it was so hot my vegemite had melted! We saw a big bull ant on the ground, and one of my friends got a leech on them, and my other friend got very terrified. We had some free time outside and we had a lot of fun running around the campsite.

Most of the food at camp was surprisingly really good! They had lots of different cereals to choose from for breakfast, but I always got cornflakes. They had toast too, which was very crunchy and good. For dinner there was pasta with Bolognese or Napoli sauce. I had the Bolognese and it was delicious. The roast potatoes were really good, and the chicken with the gravy was delicious. Like most people I had the Susie Special for dessert, which was chocolate, vanilla and strawberry topping on vanilla ice cream. It was also really good, which you can probably expect. We also had apple crumble. The custard was nice and warm. For lunch we had burgers, and the patty was exquisite! There were also wraps, which I liked because there were lots of different ingredients to put in which you could choose from. The food overall was all very good and there was always seconds!

At camp we did initiatives activities. I thought it was pretty fun, I liked doing the low ropes and I felt really happy and excited. I found it pretty easy, and I got to the end of all the low ropes. I also liked the part where we had to hold hands in the stadium and get the rope from one end to the other without letting go of each others hands.

Orienteering was really hard because my group couldn’t find the letters - it was super hard. In the end we only found a few letters but we weren't sure if they were correct. I thought the photo trail was really fun, everyone in my team did something each and we all worked it out together. It was pretty easy and we  did all of the cards.

I absolutely loved the climbing tower, I got to the top of all of them. The orange wall was definitely the hardest. I also kind of liked doing the belaying. I loved the high ropes, it was my favourite activity. I got to the top twice. I liked coming down because it was relaxing, it felt like you were floating. The flying fox was so fun, it was about 120 meters long. I let go of the rope and flew, and did a pose like I was laying down and flying.

I had no idea there was going to be a glow party! When I walked in I saw the bright flashing lights, and I instantly thought “this is going to be fun!” I found a lot of glow sticks on the ground so I went around with a  huge necklace, wristbands and a head band. My friends and I started a huge conga line and got nearly everyone in 3/4 on board. When the conga line broke up it got restarted by some other people, and then when that broke down we started another one. Lots of people were dancing, and when the lights turned back on everyone started chanting “one more song” and so they turned the lights back off and they played one last song. The glow party was one of my highlights of the whole camp!
