Brain Olympia

Brain Olympia

On Wednesday, 8 of our stage 3 students competed against other schools in our region in Brain Olympia at St Edward’s Tamworth. The last time this competition ran was in 2019!

Brain Olympia involves students versing other schools in a trivia like manner with 4 different rounds; general knowledge, problem solving, public speaking and creating and performing a drama performance.

The first round was general knowledge which was split into 5 sections; English, HSIE, Science, Current Affairs and Famous People/Places/Events. There was a total of 50 questions. Our St Michael’s team got 30/50 for this round. The team then had 30 minutes to complete 5 tricky mathematical problems. They received 8/14 for this round. Public speaking was next and the topic was “if only…” The team nominated Harper to speak on their behalf and then had 40 minutes to prepare and write this speech. The team focused their speech on ‘if only people were kinder”. Harper did a great job being the first speaker of all the teams and speaking in front of everyone. They received 12/20 for their speech. The teams were then given time to create and perform their drama performance based on ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’. This is an extremely challenging task for any student. The students did a wonderful job and received 23/30!

The students did a fantastic job representing our school and should be proud of their efforts and teamwork! Although we didn’t make it through to the next round, I believe this was a great and fun experience for them all! Thank you to Lucy Gallagher and Tanya Ryman for driving our team members out!
