Year 7 & 8 News
What an amazing term (and year).
From the Assistant Principal
What a tremendous year our Year 7 and 8 students have had. So many exciting experiences, incredible learning, growth and achievement, and positive connections made. It is somewhat surreal to think that 2022 was the first full year of on-site schooling since 2019, and it wasn't without challenges and disruption. Students, families, staff and the entire community are to be commended on their resilience and perseverance.
I'd like to take this opporunity to thank immensely the amazing staff that supported the students in the Junior School this year, particularly the leaders. Thank you, Mr Struth, Ms Reid, Mr Kearney, Mr Gould, Ms McLean, Ms Taylor, and Mr Cirillo. Their hard work, dedication, and support of students and staff has enabled our students to have the best experience possible in 2022.
I am delighted to have Mr Struth, Ms McLean, Mr Gould, and Ms Reid remain in the Green Building next year. Mr Cirillo joins the Orange Building to work with Year 10, whilst we say farewell to Mr Kearney and Ms Taylor who take on new opportunities away from CESC. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.
It is great to welcome Ms Fallon, Mr Johnson, and Ms Andjelkov to the Year Level teams for 2023. Our students are lucky to have them, and I know they have already started to get to know students during Step Up.
To our Year 8 students, congratulations on graduating into Middle School, and commencing Year 9. To our Year 7 students, well done on your first year of secondary schooling. I look forward to you being the role models and mentors to our incoming students as the Year 8s did for you this year.
On behalf of the entire Green Building, thanks for your support this year. Have a wonderful, relaxing and safe holiday break. We will see you in 2023!

From the Junior School Leaders
As the year comes to an end we would like to thank all of the families and students of the Year 7 and 8 2022 cohorts for their ongoing support. We made it through out first full year back at school post COVID, we came across many challenges but CESC community has tackled intense challenges head on.
Students that participated in the C4S Program during Semester 2 had the opportunity to celebrate and thank teachers that have supported them during 2022 but organising and running a lunch.
In the last two weeks we have seen students across both year levels enjoy their Celebration Days and Step Up Week. It has been a busy time for all but what a great time we have had.
The 2022 Year 7 Cohort had the opportunity to participate in a variety of games and bowling for their Celebration Day. The Year 8 Cohort Celebration Day consisting of Archery, Nerf Wars, Ninja Warrior Course, Street Dancing and Circus Skills. Both days provided students with many laughs and a lot of fun was had by all.
Step Up has been a terrific experience to prepare our students for the commencement of 2023. There were many new learning opportunities and time was dedicated to develop new expectations and connections with teachers and peers.
Take care everyone and Happy Holidays to you all.
-Mr Struth, Ms McLean & Mr Gould
Hands on Learning & Connect 4 Success Programs
Thank you to all the fantastic students that have been apart of Hands on Learning this year. We have seen some fantastic work as students didn’t know how to use power tools have designed and built picnic tables, table tennis tables, garden beds and easy access bins for all students to dispose of their rubbish throughout the school. The development of team work, social and emotional skills with technical knowledge throughout the year has been impressive.
Our Connect 4 Success students have taken on every challenge we have set them this year as we have seen many of our students build a strong connection with college staff and their peers. Our focus is to reflect on ourselves their self-development has impressed the team.
We wish you all the best as we have thoroughly enjoyed 2022 with our year 7 & 8 cohort and we look forward to working with you all in 2023 after a well-deserved break.
Mandarin Incursion
On the 24th of November, our Year 7 students participated in a martial arts incursion provided by members of the University of Melbourne Taichi and Wushu club. Students participated in highly engaging activities such as basic self-defence and watched live martial arts performances. In addition, students were taught about the cultural significance of Chinese martial arts.
We would like to thank Melbourne University Wushu Kung Fu Club for their time and dedication.
