MUSIC THERAPY NEWS

MUSIC THERAPY 2019
This year we have two full time Registered Music Therapists working with the students:–
Kate Jemison & Blythe Moon.
We have close to sixty students, of all ages, involved in music therapy in 2019. The music therapy program is provided through individual sessions, small group programming and the use of therapeutic listening support (through the use of iPods and individualised music compilations).
Music is highly motivating to many (in fact most) of our students and as a result they are often keen to attend their sessions and participate in our programs.
Music therapy programs have a strong focus on supporting student learning in the areas of communication, social competencies and independence. In addition, music serves as a an excellent tool to support self regulation, enhance mood and assist with relaxation. Used in this way music can assist students to self calm and better engage in their classroom learning.
