Level 1

We are so proud of our Level 1 students for continuing to maintain focus and engage with their learning tasks. We have been further exploring minibeasts, in particular spiders and beetles, among others. Students enjoyed our virtual minibeast incursion. The session included some of Australia's most spectacular minibeasts: huge stick insects, giant burrowing cockroaches, rainforest snails, giant praying mantids, tarantulas, scorpions, huge centipedes, massive millipedes, beetles, rainforest crickets and more! We were impressed with the interesting questions asked by students.

As well as researching and exploring the life cycle of a variety of minibeasts, students planned and created a minibeast habitat using materials of their choice, with some thoughtful and creative results. They also made minibeasts from fruit and vegetables – artistic AND delicious!

Students have continued to hone their information report writing and editing skills, sharing their work on their class blogs. They also used our Inquiry topic to write narratives about their minibeasts of choice.

We have been revising arrays and repeated addition in Maths, including making ‘array citites’. We have also been estimating, measuring and describing capacity, which has been a fun topic to explore during Remote Learning.

We observed R U OK? Day last week by wearing yellow to our whole-class WebEx meeting, watching an R U OK? video together to discuss, and taking part in a number of other wellbeing activities. Many students ‘checked in’ with their teachers, which was lovely and much appreciated!

We are looking forward to a fun last week of term, with some special WebEx activities planned, including kite making and cooking. We wish you a fabulous last week of term, and a restful school-holiday break.
