Principal's Message

Liam Buckley

Feast of Mary MacKillop Aug 8th

Dear God

Please help me to become like Mary

in all I do, say, and think.

Mary was the perfect example of peace, hope and forgiveness.

I pray that everyone recognises her goodness and follows her example.

Help me to live her motto,

‘Never see a need without doing something about it’

by keeping her in my heart forever.

Amen

Dear Families

Thank you once again for responding to remote learning. It is a challenging time for all of us and our thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of our community. We hope to be open normally ASAP. I would like to thank Ben Sandison for his leadership during the first three weeks of the term. I had some Long Service Leave booked in for a while and it was a nice opportunity to revitalise despite most of the time being in lockdown.

Remote Learning:

Dear families we are responding as well as we can to the requests and feedback from the community. We appreciate the incredible challenge that home schooling presents. What works for some families and children does not work for others. Our staff are available between 9 - 2 generally as 'live' teachers and we also have Performing Arts offering 'live' lessons and rehearsals on Fridays. I hope more children and families can enjoy Ms Wood's cooking lessons or Art Club on a Thursday too.

For those parents at home with students, please be aware that while class teachers are working remotely (and have their own children too in most cases) the other staff are here onsite providing support to the students attending. As such we are unable to offer live specialist lessons on Wednesdays as our specialist teachers are providing the cover in school.  We will be considering how we can try and provide both options going forward. I want to acknowledge the outstanding work that Ange, Michelle, Tess, Mikaela are doing supporting our onsite learners. Our Learning Support Officers are wonderful!

SHREK Jr

Dear parents/guardians,

This term we'll be diving deep into the world of Shrek Jr. with getting costumes, props and set pieces organised for our production in November.

If you can please indicate if you would be willing to help out in any way, whether it would be sourcing costumes, sewing, building set pieces, painting etc, please send an email to tsabbatucci@sjblackrock.catholic.edu.au

Anything would be greatly appreciated!

A meeting will be held in the near future (restrictions permitted) to further discuss the plan going forward. I will show you my ideas and talk through what needs to be made/sourced.

Thank you and kindest regards,

Tess Sabbatucci

Our Junior Joeys school experience has taken a bit of a battering over the last term because of tighter restrictions, but rest assured, it will be back for term 3 just as soon as we can let people through the gates.

Please if you are on social media, please share our posts to promote Junior Joeys to a broader audience, talk about it to your friends while you wait for your takeaway coffees or walk along the beach. The more we spread the good word of the St Joseph's community, the bigger our community becomes.

PSGs

We will be running PSGs during Week 7/8 of the term and Cathy / Melinda will be in touch nearer the time.

Martial Arts Club Before School

It was great to see so many children taking the opportunity to expel some energy last week for the first martial arts before school session. What an amazing way to engage the brain before a school day! If you are interested you can contact the school office for more information or click this link.

First Holy Communion

We will keep everyone up to date with the rescheduling once we have more information from Father David.

Fruit & Veg Boxes

(last orders! P&F page)

P&F

We’ve been allocated a date for Bunning’s Sausage Sizzle on Sunday 17th October. More to follow ... save the date.

(please read P&F page )

Even though Covid restrictions continue to get in the way of a "normal" school year, our amazing P&F crew have been working hard behind the scenes to organise some fundraising and community events for this term.

Now more than ever, with cancellations and postponements, the school needs the support of the community to raise funds. So keep the loose change from your middle console in the car, run your hand between the cushions on the couch and have a quiet word to the tooth fairy for a pay rise because the events will come thick and fast once we can run these events.

Dads' Drinks: is booked for Friday 3rd September and further information will come from Paul and the team nearer the time. Hopefully we can celebrate our wonderful dads and grandads with a wonderful Fathers' Day Breakie at school in the morning and a lemonade or two in the evening!

Dates.

School events are becoming a moveable feast at the moment so all dates remain flexible in the hope of being able to come back together as a community.
