Please note that Stay and Play will be paused until COVID regulations allow.

Dickins Room

What a fun time we had at Kinder last week, with some beautiful moments of sunshine making it all the brighter!

Our Wimbi children enjoyed exploring a new creature that came to Kinder- a Yabbie! There was a lot of excitement and curiosity shared at our mat time, the children drew on prior knowledge- and some wild guesses as they tried to work out what it was. We had lobsters, crabs, spider lobsters, crocodiles, jelly fish, octopus and elephants: just to name a few guesses! The children loved getting outside, spending time washing the dinosaurs, on the swings and making music with sticks on the fence. There has been some wonderful co-operation emerging through play with our three year old class, the children are working together to accomplish learning and achieve outcomes that are not available when playing alone. This is an important transition in child development, one that we do not take for granted after last years impacts.

Our Marram class has had an incredible week at kinder!! The children have been remarkably focused and this has led to some wonderful learning and rich intentional teaching moments occurring. We've scaffolded skills such as fine motor, persistence and concentration through cutting pictures out of magazines, introducing clay to create sculptures, large hama bead bases and cooking.

With lockdowns and disruptions occuring throughout our home and social worlds, it has been a priority for our teaching staff to support the wellbeing and identity of each child and the cohort of children as a whole, this week we went on an adventure to the oval, kicking balls and supporting relationships and connections between peers and staff, we had children completing large and complex floor puzzles independently- utilizing growth mindset principles to work through challenges and found the the children really needed their 'down time' this week- they were so calm as we spent time focusing on deep breathing and mindfulness after lunch.

We are looking forward to another great week of Kinder!

Moore Room

We have had a super busy week in the Moore room.

From previously finding some insects, we have been looking at shape, size and colour. We used textas to define our shape and size and some water paints to emulate the colours. Taking some clipboards, paper and pencils to the garden to document our further findings, we were able to use this medium to also look at the environment and discuss habitats. Communicating through art allows us to develop; concepts, spatial awareness, co-operative hand use, language and creativity which supports early literacy. We also had loads of fun using some manipulative construction to create our own insects – sharing a lot of humour in the process.

We have made some medals from salt clay – exploring concepts of cause and effect, mathematical representation and also shared these learning moments making volcanoes in the sandpit. There has been great interest in the puzzles recently, which also allows for problem solving, persistence and applying thinking strategies, all of which supports early numeracy.

Huge enjoyment in some group games and the favourite being musical statues. Listening with our bodies, great balancing and good sportsmanship. We also enjoyed a little concert – children taking turns to sing their favourite tunes and the audience celebrating others efforts and achievements.

Have a fantastic week!
