Selamat siang!

Firstly, thank you for all of your support and hard work throughout Remote Learning so far. We know it is an incredibly difficult time and we appreciate your assistance when helping your child access GoogleMeets or complete their learning tasks. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you have any concerns or need support.

We enjoy seeing the students on our Morning GoogleMeet Check-In, and have been so impressed with them during our MiniMaths and Literacy small group sessions. In the Literacy sessions last week, students focused on speaking clearly and with expression when performing Reader’s Theater. It was so much fun to hear the different voices students choose to portray different characters and some students even performed their own plays with puppets during one of the Seesaw learning tasks. When writing, students used their creativity to brainstorm different Sizzling Starts focusing on ‘A moment of action’ to hook the reader's attention. There were so many different ideas for the birthday party disaster including squished cakes, hungry dogs, and annoying brothers.

In Mathematics, students explored Capacity and Mass by measuring and comparing different items from around their house. Students had the choice to use informal (blocks, pasta, beads) or formal (millilitre) units to measure the capacity of different containers and order them from the biggest to smallest capacity. They also had the challenge to find two containers that held the same capacity but looked different. Later in the week, students used hefting, balance scales or kitchen scales to investigate the mass of different household items, and even explored reading grams on items in their pantry. It was fantastic to see students use their strength of perseverance when completing these learning tasks.

Each day, students have the opportunity to complete activities from the weekly Choice Board. The Choice Board contains additional activities relating to science, wellbeing, physical activity and STEM just to name a few. If you are looking for more activities to complete at home, you can also access Reading Eggs/Eggspress or Mathletics. The Reading Eggspress library is also a great resource as it has a wide variety of books to read online while you are at home. The login information should be found in the front of students reading logs.

Take care and have a good week,

Miss Glen, Mrs Gill, Miss Honan, Mr Jenkins, Mrs Seadon, Miss Tillotson and Miss Wang
