Selamat siang!

Thank you for all of your hard work throughout Remote Learning the past week! Hopefully, it isn’t too long until we are back in the classroom. We hope that everyone is doing okay during this time and if you have any concerns please get in touch with your classroom teacher.

We continue to run our morning zoom check-ins followed by small group Literacy Live sessions and Mini Maths sessions later in the morning. It is great to see the work being produced in our daily Literacy and Maths tasks and students using the allocated times on the slides to work accordingly (numeracy task 30-45 minutes and literacy task 45-60 minutes). The teachers appreciate the change in our Seesaw upload, having one allocated activity where all the work from the day can be easily seen and reflected upon. This post is where students will receive feedback from their teacher. Lunchtime Zoom sessions are back and on Monday-Thursday at 12:30pm! The turnout has been amazing for these social zoom sessions and have been a highlight for the students and teachers. Lunch zooms are open for any grade 3/4 to attend to have a bit of fun and play some games with their peers. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions about the learning tasks for that day. Keep an eye on google classroom each day to see which teacher is running the Zoom session.

In Literacy sessions last week, students practised asking questions before and after reading to help have a better understanding of the text. We also began our unit on poetry, experimenting with Haiku and Limerick poems and using our senses to take our descriptions to the next level. With our recent practise looking at similes, it was fantastic to see some students extending their knowledge and including one or two in their poems. The poems we looked at over the week had very specific syllable rules associated with them. I wonder if your child has any tips or tricks in identifying how many syllables there are in a word? It might have something to do with their chin and their hand...

In Mathematics sessions across the week, students continued exploring multiplication strategies including arrays and fact families, and vertical multiplication with and without renaming. We built off these skills as we moved into learning all about division. Students showcased their understanding of arrays to visually represent division problems and represent the associated fact families. Students also had the opportunity to practise short division with and without renaming as well as when there were remainders involved.

Throughout the week we have incorporated a variety of brain break activities within the slides to make sure our students are up and moving or getting creative in between their Literacy and Maths sessions. As you have seen on the choice board, we have provided a range of activities that are suited to offline learning to ensure our students have a balance of screen time when working on their iPad. The inclusion of our emoji reflection slide on the daily Seesaw activity have provided the 3/4 teachers with a way to connect and see how the students are feeling each day. It is super important to use that during this time students feel supported to show how they are feeling and reach out if they are struggling with the tasks or their wellbeing.

We hope you have a glorious week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
