Leadership Centre

Curriculum

Hai,

It is fair to say that students in the leadership centre are nothing short of resilient. We thank our students and their families for their continual support during these snap lockdowns and adapting to the change between learning at school and home learning.

We are asking students to work for 45-60 minutes on Maths and Literacy tasks. If your child is finishing their work before this allocated time, there is ample work for them to complete. All Maths tasks are differentiated so students can try another starred task if they finish early. They can also work on their Maths goals and Manga high set tasks.

In Literacy, writing opportunities are endless... journaling, poetry, comic strips and picture books are some of the writing masterpieces your child can complete. Students can read their chosen novel from the Olympic reading challenge and also have reading and writing goals they can work on. The best part of these Literacy opportunities is that they are all offline.

Literacy

This week in writing, students have been analysing lyrics of various music. Students have been beginning to write their own rap lyrics in preparation for writing their own slam poetry.

Maths

Multiplication continued to be our Maths focus this week. Students have been working through selected starred tasks based on where they are at in the understanding of multiplication. It has been great to work with students online during the small group sessions giving opportunity to work through misconceptions and move on to their next steps.

Guided Inquiry

Our Guided Inquiry this term, Care for the Kids, is based on Social Justice; understanding what it means to be a global citizen, showing a ‘pathy’ to others within our community and globally. Have a chat with your child about what it means to be a global citizen and how they show a ‘pathy’ towards others.

Science

This week, students were introduced to Dr Karl and his world of questions and investigsting. Our Science unit this term has a biology focus and we begin with looking a watering systems for growing plants and seedlings. Lockdown has proven to be an opportunity to explore how your garden grows and experimenting with planting. Share with your child your thoughts on the watering systems you use and maybe start some planting of your own.

Whilst we have no answers for students about how long these lockdowns will continue for or when they are finished, please know that we are here to support your child and your family throughout this uncertain time. Yes it is hard to keep finding motivation and we appreciate your effort in continually encouraging your child participate in zoom sessions and complete their work during the day.  Ask your child to look at the Positive padlet from Wednesday's lesson! Hopefully some good affirmations for you all.

Take care and we are looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
