Keeping Active
This term in PE, the Prep students have explored the diversities of ways they can be physically active. They have participated in activities, such as the Exercise Alphabet, where they learned to spell out different words using their bodies, whilst participating in 26 exercises for each different letter. We have also looked at the way YouTube videos can be an effective learning and exercise resource, without the need for any special sports equipment. They have loved participating in the Exercise Would You Rather? videos.
Preps and JLC have also been busy building their own obstacle courses using different equipment they have lying around at home or at school. I am very inspired by their creativity, as each week they have contributed ideas to enrich our lessons, such as tightrope walking for balance.
JLC students have continuously demonstrated their effort and enthusiasm. They have participated in a variety of physical activities so they can explore the diversity of exercise and find the ones that suit them, including kicking, throwing, running, bouncing and skipping. JLC students participated in The Rainbow Fish Exercise, where we read the book The Rainbow Fish and the students completed a different exercise every time we read the word ‘fish’.
This term, the MLC and SLC students have worked cooperatively with their peers regardless of being onsite or at home. Across all year levels including MLC, students have participated in a range of games and exercises that have a particular focus on fun and engagement, rather than on a fitness outcome. This includes their participation in Exercise Snakes and Ladders, where students worked in teams to make their way through the Snakes and Ladders board, completing different exercises each time they moved. The students have definitely proved that distanced learning is no barrier to their competitive nature. MLC and SLC have also been working on making an Exercise Plan for an elite athlete, using their own creativity and ideas from our PE lessons to come up with some different exercises for their chosen athletes.
