Information Reports, Time and Show and Share

During writing, JLC have been learning about Information Reports. They looked at examples of  what a good and a not so good report looks like and they were able to say why one report  was better than the other.

The Year 2’s learnt all about the Veiled Chameleon and sorted information under the correct subheadings. The Year 1’s, learnt about Arctic animals and wrote their information under the subheadings of Classification, Description, Habitat, Diet and Interesting facts.

JLC really enjoy researching and with the help of Kiddle.com. They were asked to investigate either a person, animal, place or thing which is of interest to them.  Apart from animals that children love to research, some children wrote information reports on the Rubik's Cube, the Earth and on the game of Chess.  They all did very well and we were impressed with their work. Well done!

In Maths, JLC have been working on Time.  This included the measurement of time in hours and minutes, in days of the week, in months of the year and seasons.  They revised the language of time and ordering events.

The children have been learning to tell the time on both analogue and digital clocks.  The Year 1’s have mastered telling the time on the hour and half hour and have enjoyed cutting and pasting analogue clock faces to digital times.  The Year 2’s are working hard on recognising and telling the time on the quarter hour and 5 minute intervals. They have also been working on worded problems, where they need to find out what the elapsed time is in each scenario. Well done everyone!

The Junior Learning Community enjoys and looks forward to their weekly Show and Share time.  Each week the topic changes.  Last week in keeping with the Book Week theme (which due to COVID has had to be postponed) the children shared their favourite book with the class. They were very confident in their presentations and embraced the opportunity to be in front of their friends and speak about their favourite book.

Some children chose to read some of their favourite parts of their book while others gave a very good synopsis.  We are looking forward to seeing the ongoing building of confidence and the further development in their communication skills.

Kind regards
