Families and Friends
Promoting the welfare of, and providing support to, the SMPS community
There are different names for a school's Families & Friends club. You may have heard terms such as 'Parents and Friends', 'PFA' or 'Parents Club'.
📗 SMPS has adopted the name 'Families & Friends', (FAF or F&F for short), as the SMPS community is made up of more than just parents. We have grandparents, uncles, sisters, pets, SMPS staff, friends, ex-students and next door neighbours, who are important partners in the SMPS students' learning.
📘 While we get to know each other, we can work together to support the school and the students, and build a sense of community within the school.
📒 With support and approval from the School Council, all the money we raise through a variety of social, cultural, educational or fundraising activities goes towards making the school an even better place for the children to be.
📙 The first big project we are supporting is enhancing playtime for the children with line markings on the concreted areas outside the art room and library. For example, a hop scotch pattern.
🦋 Thank you to those who are a part of the FAF already. We welcome every family member and friend who would like to join the FAF. In coming issues of this SMPS newsletter, we will provide details of how you can get more involved if you wish to. We have lots of exciting fundraising activities planned for 2021!
🐠 Hello everyone.
For those of you who I haven't had the privilege of meeting yet, my name is Georgie Rowsell and I am honoured to be the current President of our FAF.
My son, Billy (2C), and I are blessed to be enjoying out third year at SMPS.
Please stop and say hello if you see me at the school gates, (usually around 8.45am or 3.30pm).
Earlier this year, do you remember reading, (in this newsletter), an invitation to submit a recipe to be included in the SMPS Cookbook? Well, there were over 100 recipes sent in! Yes, over 100!
SMPS is very lucky to have such a culturally diverse community. Thanks to our wonderful families, you now have the chance to enjoy the flavours from many of these cultures.
The 'SMPS Family Favourites' cookbook contains a variety of dishes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, cakes and bakes. We know you'll enjoy this culinary masterpiece!
You may even find a new favourite food!
No SMPS student's kitchen is complete without this recipe book!
Here's a sneak peak of the front cover.
So how do you get your hands on one for only $20?
Perhaps you'd like to order more than one? They'll make a great gift!
In case you need them, below are some tips on how to order your SMPS Family Favourites recipe book.

This is the question in Compass asking how many more copies of the book you would like to order.
If you would like to order just 1 book in total, please answer 0 to this question.
What a year it's been! To help the year end with a bit of fun, (and to raise money for our playground line markings), SMPS is holding an 'End of Year' raffle on 11 December 2020. (One week before end of the school year.)
An essential part of a raffle is prizes. We are calling on you, our SMPS community, for donations.
Can you donate a prize? Some suggestions are: new games/puzzles, new lunchboxes/water bottles, vouchers for experiences. What other prizes, suitable for children, adults or families, can you think of?
Or do you know any local businesses, keen to support us, who would like to make a donation? Perhaps a restaurant voucher or a gift voucher?
Should you be able to kindly donate a prize, please follow the below instructions.
🛑 At this stage, please do not purchase or bring any donations to school. 🛑
We will let you know when you can do that. Thank you for supporting SMPS!
By 8pm Wednesday 11 November, please email smps.faf@gmail.com with the details of your donation. 🟨 what it is 🟩 it's value $ 🟦 if it suits a particular age (eg. For children aged 8+ or suits 5-7 y.o.)
By 8pm Friday 13 November, we will advise if we can accept your generous donation. |
👀 In the next newsletter we'll provide a list of all the raffle prizes and how you can purchase raffle tickets.
👀 Do you have any school uniform that doesn't fit any more? Don't throw it out! Please hold onto it and consider donating it to the school's second hand uniform shop - coming soon!
