Wellbeing Activity afternoon

Congratulations to staff who helped organize this special afternoon

Our Year 7-9 students engaged in some fantastic Wellbeing sessions that included some sessions with Todd from the Chin up program, the SALT program, Zumba being ran by Erin, Dodgeball and team building games, board games and mindfulness art (chalk drawings and colouring). Our students all engaged fantastically with each of their chosen activities, and will definitely be walking away from school this afternoon feeling a sense of connection with both their peers and our school itself.

Firstly, I just wanted to send out a massive thank you to all of the staff that engaged with each of the sessions. As I made my way around each of the sessions, it was a pleasure to see the staff assigned to each session getting in and involved with the students that they had, which lead to even greater levels of student engagement.

Next, I wanted to thank Ms Saskia Boersma for the work she did behind the scenes with getting everything planned and in place for each of the sessions. The support she offered was appreciated, and a massive reason everything flowed as well as it did.

Last but not least, the biggest thank you needs to be saved for our fantastic and hardworking Year Level Leaders across 7-9. Ms Holland, Ms Clifford and Mrs Fox did a mountain of work to ensure that today ran well including planning and organizing the activities, sourcing the resources that were used, creating and collating the sign-up sheets to ensure students were organized into activities of their choice, organizing students to ensure that they knew where they needed to go and by engaging with each session and the students within as they floated around to all of the sessions within their double. I think that the appreciation of the students can be summed up by the volume of the cheers that the Year 7 & 8 students gave at the end of the day!

All in all, the day went off without a hitch, and should definitely assist with rebuilding some strong and meaningful connections between students and our fantastic school!

Wellbeing Day

Written by Indianna White 7 C

On the 10th of November, a hot Spring day, out school had planned to have a wellbeing day, where there were multiple activities that we could choose from. The activities included: Dodge Ball, Ball Games, Mindfulness coloring activity and Zumba.

The first activity I chose was Mindfulness coloring. I drew all over the concrete with chalk along with some friends. About 20 minutes into the activity huge big gust of wind came and the coloring pages went everywhere, after we had picked them all up, we had only 10 minutes left.  Soon the bell rang and we switched activities.

While others went to different activities like, Art, board games and Zumba.  I went to, by far the best activity Dodge Ball! We were placed in teams and set off.  I was in a team with a few people I knew.  First game came around and we lost, second game we won, the third game was a draw.  The final game decided the match, which we WON!!

As the loud school bell went, we all went back to the undercover area.  We were all sweating because of the heat.  As we all sat there and puffed, the teachers handed out icy poles. The end of day bell rang and it was time to get on the bus and go home.

It was a hot afternoon 27 degree day at Woodmans Hill Secondary College where all the year 7’s and 8’s were lined up by classes for the Wellbeing afternoon.  I waited for the sunscreen while the teachers took the roll. We then got into our groups for activities and for me the first thing I did was Art. Others went off to play Dodgeball, Zumba and Board Games.

The Art activity was outside in a nice shady area, where the teacher told us to just go off and have some fun, first I did a coloring but if got kind of boring.  So I went to get some chalk.  The chalk creations/drawings, were amazing.  There were rainbows, eyes and lots of thing to do with among us. It was really cool and nice and relaxing!!!

When the bell went and we switched activities, I went to Dodge Ball, We were sorted into teams and then we began to play. First game we lost mainly because we took too many risks, but the next game we won because we played it a bit more safely. The next game we tied, which was really annoying because a few people were fighting about it. But it was fine because we won the last game and victory was ours.  It was so much fun and very silly!!

In my opinion Dodge Ball was the best because it was fun and a lot more thought out.  But I think a lot of the people would have different opinions.  After all the activities were finished we were given icy poles and we all went home.
