TERM 4 - WEEK 1

To the St Nicholas School Community

WELCOME BACK!

As we venture into the final term for the 2020 school year we warmly welcome back all members of our school community after a holiday break. We look forward to a wonderful last term of onsite learning and valuable experiences for all our students and staff.

REAL Talk

As we navigate through the digital world with our children we are unfortunately becoming only too familiar with the dark side and the negative impact of the internet and social media. Children are targeted with images, videos, and material of an offensive nature. Being proactive, arming ourselves with knowledge, and being educated by professionals are all-powerful and effective strategies we as adults can use to protect our children’s innocence. An integral aspect of the education is through our partnership with Real Talk www.realtalkaustralia.com

The Real Talk program will be presented to our school community next week. Beginning with the online Parent Information evening. Details on how to access this Zoom session was sent home on a flyer earlier this week. Details can also be found on the School’s Facebook page. This will then be followed by a Zoom online workshop at school with our Year 4 and 6 students on Tuesday 20th October. While it is recommended all parents with children in Year 4 and 6 zoom into Monday night’s information session, due to the significance and importance of the education, I would strongly encourage all our parents (K-6) to attend.

The Real Talk Program has received glowing reviews from our parents and the school community over the past two years and is a presentation not to be missed. Please make it a priority next Monday night from the comfort of your own home!

Year 6 RE Test

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who sat the Year 6 RE Test yesterday. While they experienced some internet difficulties, the students remained positive about the new online format and questioning style. The results will be used to reflect and critique our Religious Education and pedagogy. While proud of our academic record in this test, we are always striving to improve.

Book Week/ Book Fair

Next week is Book Week and our annual Book Fair. The theme is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. Thank you to our Librarian Julie McGuirk and the Year 6 Library Leaders for all their efforts with the lead up to next week as we wait in anticipation.

Esteem Kids: Before School Care

Thank you to the parents who responded to the survey regarding Before School Care. We are pleased to announce that before school care will be available from Term 1 2021. It will operate from 7:00 am to 8:30 am Monday to Friday during the school term with breakfast being provided. For more information please see the Esteem Kids page within this newsletter.

Year 6 Tabloid games.

As a school community, we continue to support our children’s active lifestyle, particularly with COVID-19 restricting annual events. Enjoy the short clip below of Year 6 hopping, skipping, and jumping their way through the last day of Term 3. A big thank you to our Year 6 leaders and Mrs Tyrrell for the 5 weeks of fun, friendship, and physical activity.

Crazy Sock Day - Catholic Mission

Tomorrow is ‘Crazy Sock Day’ (Socktober) where students may wear non-uniform socks in support of Catholic Mission. The day is about raising awareness and engaging our school community in developing world issues through the universal language of sport. Students will be given the opportunity to play a game of soccer using soccer balls made from recycled plastics.

Enjoy the week ahead!
