From the School Leadership Team,

From Chris Chant,
Principal
Good afternoon, hello, bonjour, shalom and wominjeka.
Today we acknowledge our teachers at CJC, across the country and around the world who follow their calling and work in education.
As a profession we take on many challenges and work through complex issues to provide and facilitate learning - both in the classroom and for connection within our communities.
My teachers and all my staff at CJC work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of our students and impact positively on their learning. This year has been unlike any other and we have risen as a profession to meet the challenge of remote learning, create safe learning spaces and manage the broader expectations of government and the community. This year many more members of the wider community will fully understand the complexities of being a teacher.
Congratulations and keep up the good work. This morning our staff enjoyed a welcome coffee, croissant and conversation to start their school day.
Teaching is a journey. Today we discovered that one of our teachers taught music to one of our current parents. This teacher is now teaching and supporting the learning of this parent's son in the junior school.
Monday November 2nd is a normal school day. Students are required at school on this day.
Tuesday November 3rd is a public holiday for the Melbourne Cup. Students are NOT required at school on this day.
The Melbourne Cup was first run in 1851 and since 1875 has been held on the first Tuesday in November. This year will be a different kind of day with no patrons on course and celebrations being restricted to strict COVID guidelines.
School Council met this week and reiterated their desire to push forward with our plans for future improvements and development of our school, though the process of the implementation of a Master Plan, which would include the design and financial support. We have been working on some ideas which will soon be opened up for community consultation.
For the purpose of consultation and seeking Government funding support, CJC School Council is forming a new Master Plan Implementation Subcommittee. It will be chaired by a member of School Council and we would like to invite members of the community to join.
If you would like to be involved, please get in contact with me directly.
Thank you

Enrolments for 2021 and Departures at the End of 2020
If you know you are definitely moving from Caulfield Junior College at the end of this year could you please let the office know as soon as possible. This will greatly assist our planning for 2021. Thank you to those families who have already let us know.
In the coming weeks, teachers will be discussing friendships and working partnerships with the students for 2021. If you’d like to communicate with the Leadership Team regarding an educational request for your child’s placement next year, please respond in writing before 13th November. We stipulate that this request does not ask for specific teachers.
Parents will need to consent to the 2021 Student Stationery Pack ‘Event’ in COMPASS in order for the school to order their stationery for next year. This needs to be done by midnight 5th November. If consent is not given by this date, it will be assumed that you will providing all stationery items for your child. These lists can be found on the school website.
Families are arriving at the office once school has commenced to hand over lunch boxes, school bags, drink bottles and hats. We are expecting students to have these items with them as they start the school day. Disruptions in the office, announcements and messages to classes all complicate a busy day of learning. Please try to reduce these disruptions by ensuring your child is fully ready for school as they walk through the gate each school day.
Our return to school plans for student wellbeing and safety have been in place now for a number of weeks. Parents are reminded about parking legally, respectfully and with safety in mind. Children cannot be dropped off in the middle of the road or in no standing areas.
Pedestrian crossings must be used and the instructions of the supervisor followed.
Once we have DET directions regarding ball sports, contact play and access to playgrounds and spaces we will communicate these to students, staff and the community.
2021 Prep Information Sessions & Transition program
We are so excited to meet our 2021 Prep students and their families very soon.
On Tuesday 10th November (5.15 pm – 6.15 pm) and Wednesday 11th November (7.00 pm – 8.00 pm) we will be hosting two information sessions for parents of our 2021 Prep students. Parents will be sent a ZOOM link to log into this session with the School Leadership Team and the Prep teachers. Parents are welcome to choose the session that suits them best. There is no need to attend both sessions.
As previously communicated, the dates for Prep Transition this year are:
- 18 November
- 25 November
- 2 December
- 8 December
Due to COVID restrictions, our Prep Transition program will look very different to previous years. Future Prep students will have 2 visits to the school, in small groups of 10, and experience 2 online ZOOM sessions to make up their transition experience.
More information about the specific arrangements for these sessions is coming shortly.
Grade 6 Graduation
We are pleased to advise you that we have confirmed a date for this year’s graduation ceremony. The date has been set for Wednesday 16th of December, the final week of the term. Specific times will be advised once they are at hand.
Unfortunately, following DET guidelines, only students and school staff will be able to attend this event.
Further details relating to the ceremony will be communicated later.
We will be working with staff to create some activities and learning opportunities to celebrate NAIDOC week. The dates are listed below and classes will access these resources across the school , in classrooms and with their specialist teachers.

From Christelle Breimeyer,
Acting French Director
Bonjour,

This weekend’s outlook is more cheerful with the lifting of restrictions. We are all ready to go back to a more normal life!
Today was International Teachers Day, an occasion to celebrate the essential work of our teachers and they have been spoilt. Thank you to all our families, we were very moved by your friendly gestures.
This week started with a happy event, Madame Pommier has welcomed a new little person into her family. Maman and Baby Charlotte are home and in good health.
We observed a minute of silence on Wednesday to reflect upon the sad and tragic events that took place in France recently. Our thoughts go to Samuel Paty and his family.
Following the recent attacks in France, we have received the support of the French Consulate and the Australian Federal Police (AFP), who will be patrolling regularly around our school.
Our school is a Sunsmart school, please put on sunscreen, bring your hats and drink bottles to school. Remember, “No Hat, No Play”!
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the Melbourne Cup public holiday on Tuesday.
