This class activity you can also do at home, it is the game Battleships, using Auslan.
Battleship Game
- You need to draw two 8 x 8 grids, and label them from A – H going down, and 1 – 8 going sideways.
- Then you need to draw in your ships on one of the grids. I recommend four ships of different sizes, see the picture for my example. Remember they can go in straight lines up and down, or side to side. They cannot be placed diagonally.
- To aim a missile at your opponent, you need to sign a grid co-ordinate such as C3. Your opponent then checks their map where their ships are drawn. If there is no ship on C3 then they will sign “MISS”. If there is a ship on C3 then they will sign “HIT/IMPACT”.
- If you aim a missile at your opponent and it is the final missile to sink their ship. Your opponent needs to sign “EXPLOSION” to indicate the ship has been sunk. Vice versa for if your opponent sinks your ship, you will need to sign “EXPLOSION”.
- The first player to sink ALL their opponent's ships is the winner!
