Message from Acting Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Acting Principal

Business as Usual

As we are now into our fourth week back at school, it is business as usual in all of our classrooms. Teachers and students are engaging in learning and beginning to undertake end of year assessments. This term, we are running a modified assessment schedule which will assist teachers to identify student growth over the year, while allowing time to continue to deliver curriculum priorities to ensure continuity of learning for the remainder of the term.

We would like to acknowledge how well the students have transitioned back into school. We have seen incredible resilience and persistence as students navigate their way through learning experiences. Wellbeing continues to be a focus in our classrooms as students reconnect with peers and teachers.

World Teachers Day

Last Friday 30th October, we celebrated World Teachers Day. At NMPS we celebrated all of our staff to acknowledge their outstanding efforts throughout a year like no other. We thank all our staff for their commitment and dedication in supporting our students!

We would also like to thank the Parents and Friends Committee who organised our students to send messages and kind words for their teachers. Classes enjoyed this footage on Friday afternoon to recognise the day.

Parent Opinion Survey

The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst all parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement, and experiences of remote and flexible learning.

Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. A system-generated random sample of parents have received an email from the school inviting them to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous.

This year, the Parent Opinion Survey for North Melbourne Primary School will be conducted from Wednesday 28th October to Friday 13th November. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the designated timeframe on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi, and Greek. Please contact the front office if you would like more information.

2020 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP)Reflections & Forward Planning

Term 4 is a time for reflection before beginning the process of planning for the next year. While 2020 has been a different year for everyone at NMPS, the leadership and teaching teams have been able to reflect on goals and priorities for 2020 and celebrate the successes we have achieved throughout the year.

Moving into 2021, we plan to continue to embed best practice across all areas of the curriculum, whilst ensuring students are engaged and have ownership of their learning. Learning and catch up, Wellbeing, and Connections to School will be our key priority areas for the beginning of 2021.

We are very proud of what we have achieved as a community this year and once again thank our teachers, support staff, parents, and students for all their amazing work throughout both the remote learning period and the limited time we have had at school.
