Kazoo Composition Workshop Tuesday

Ciaran Frame, composer and artist from the Rising Festival, will be visiting our school on Tuesday the 4th of April to run free workshops with our Foundation, Grade 3/4 and 5/6 students. Huge apologies 1/2 students, we tried our best to fit everyone in, but timetabling made this impossible. Juniors, you will get your own special Performing Arts incursion in Term Two, and we are using our time together next week to continue preparing our creative freestyle dances for the end of Term Assembly School Band performance. The Kazoo students will participate in an hour long workshop developing their creative empowerment, exploring new forms of expression and interaction with music, an introduction to graphic notation, and gifting them with a kazoo and score to take home. (So you can also enjoy their sweet musings). All students, regardless of whether they participated in the workshop or not, are highly encouraged to participate in Ciaran’s event at Federation Square later in the year as part of the Rising Festival.
RISING EVENT IN JUNE: 10, 000 KAZOOs10,000 Kazoos is a mass participation event for RISING 2023. It’s happening in the heart of Melbourne in June, and anyone can take part. You don’t need any musical ability or training. Simply stick a kazoo in your mouth, with the pointy end at the world, and send some do-do-dos down that tube. 10,000 Kazoos will prove that everyone in Melbourne is a musician, regardless of background, education, language, or ability, and that everyone deserves to not just experience, but create art and contribute to culture—that it is an essential right.https://rising.melbourne/wormhole/join-the-kazoonityA huge thank you to Erik Mitsak for putting the school in touch with Ciaran!
SCHOOL BAND PERFORMANCEThe Senior school band has been rehearsing weekly during Thursday Lunchtimes, led by our talented instrumental music teacher and parent volunteer, Denis Phelan! The members are a great mix of students who are experienced musicians and those who are new to their instruments. This term they have been focusing on learning songs of their own choice. The band will be playing their first mini- gig at the end of term Assembly on Wednesday at 3:00pm. Please come along for a dance and sing-a-long.The Junior students will be providing some creative interpretive dance moves in response to the band at the assembly performance the Wednesday. We are looking forward to the official naming of the Senior band, the launching of the Middles school and Junior school bands in Term Two, watch this space!
