Welcome to Term 2

During the week, the 8/9 Hub held ‘Welcome to Term 2’ Assemblies for all Year 8 and 9 students. We spoke to students about the goals they have for this term. We asked students a series of questions to reflect on the goals they set for themselves at the start of the year.

  • How are you going with this goal?
  • Was it the right goal to set or do you need to review it?
  • What impact can you have this term towards your goal?
  • How will you plan to be successful with it, and how will you know you are successful?
  • What might be a barrier for you to achieve this goal?
  • Who can help you with it and what can we do to help you with it?

We spoke about the importance of having simple as well as larger goals to keep us growing and developing as people. We asked students to think about the routine they have getting organised for class in order to be on time and ready to learn and to help them be successful.

Uniform

We reminded students about our uniform and showed examples of what the options are.

Track suit pants and hoodies are not part of our uniform.

The hub can help with obtaining any items students might need for the colder months. Please contact the hub if you would like some assistance with uniform items.

Students were reminded of the expectations regarding phones and EarPods needing to be in their lockers at all times from the start of the school day.

Building Works

There continue to be a number of changes happening in the 8/9 building as we modify it to create distinct Year 8 and 9 areas.

Lockers have been rearranged and the corridors have been cleared to create more open spaces.

We have been asking students to talk to us about things we can bring into these places to make the environments even better and have had a lot of positive responses.

This term we will be continuing to develop our focus groups where small groups of students come together with hub staff to discuss topics around school engagement and wellbeing.

Morrisby

Our Year 9 students signed up for their Morrisby Profiling on Thursday 4th May during session 1.  The sign-ups allow students to be ready for the profiling stage, which will occur on Monday 8th May and Wednesday 10th May over 2 sessions.

A reminder that the Morrisby Profile is used as a tool to inspire and give students some guidance on their strengths and interests and how to find a career or study option that suits them.

If you require any assistance or have any further questions, please contact our College on Ph. 03 5150 4800

Subject Selections

From Week 4, Year 9 students will begin the process for selecting subjects for 2024 classes. This is an important process with a number of steps as students move toward choosing a more distinct pathway for their senior studies.

There will be upcoming assemblies and information sent home about the timelines and structure of this to support students.

There will be a Year 8 – Year 12 (2024) Information Night on Wednesday 31st May – this will provide parents and students a greater understanding of what to expect when moving into 2024. Please contact the hub if you have any questions or feel your student may need additional assistance or support with this.

Market Day

The students in the Year 9 Enterprising People class created a business proposal as part of their studies. They worked in groups to create an idea to sell something at a school Market Day. Preparation for this included writing a business plan, developing a budget and dividing roles for each group member. The students worked hard to create their products and then to sell them at the market.

They worked well together with many lessons learnt in the area of establishing your own business!

Congratulations

Jack travelled to Lilydale yesterday to compete in the 2023 Yarra Valley Schools Clay Target competition hosted by the Melbourne Gun Club.

Jack shot in three clay shooting disciplines for the event Trap, Skeet and Sporting. At the conclusion of the event the scores from the three rounds was added together, Jack was the winner of the junior boys (under 15) and was second overall by one target, narrowly missing out on the overall High Gun.

Jack was able to meet many students from schools throughout the state and looks forward competing at the next school event at Frankston in August.

Well done Jack, you had an amazing performance, we are super proud of you and how you represented our College.

TAFE Taster Day

Study Sessions

Homework club has started for Term 2 in the Senior building. This is open for ALL students at the college.

Homework club is a terrific opportunity for students to both catch up or get ahead in work. Students are offered the opportunity to work in small groups with other students or have one on one tutoring with their teachers, or other teachers at the college.

If you are interested speak with your teachers and let them know when you are looking to attend or go to the Senior building on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

Homework club runs from 3.20 pm to 5.00 pm and students are free to arrive and leave as they need. Fresh baked afternoon tea is provided on Thursdays by the VCE Vocational students.
