Congratulations

Congratulations to Humanities Captain, Nick Rowe for his efforts in supporting the local community at the Montrose Anzac Day Ceremony.  Max Lamb from the RSL wrote the following, in relation to Nick and his speech on Anzac Day:

"With school children taking part in the ceremony, it adds to the sense of the occasion. The audience certainly showed their appreciation of Nick. He excelled in his courage and confidence speaking in front of such a large crowd. The school and his parents must be proud of his abilities.  Having students involved makes it an encompassing community event and helps the children realise the importance of why we remember the horrors of war. We all hope they will never see such tragedy in their lifetime."

Well done Nick!

Resilience/Gratitude

Our Gratitude Board has been updated with a new theme for Term 2: ‘What makes you smile?’.

Make sure you add your reflection to the board outside Room V05 in the VCE corridor.

Yakult Excursion

On Thursday 9 May, Year 12 Business Management students visited Yakult in Dandenong.

The hi-tech facility incorporates some of the latest food processing equipment, which includes the manufacture of plastic bottles, filling and packaging lines, culture and quality control rooms.

Everyone had the opportunity to taste the deliciously refreshing Yakult.

Year 12 Breakfasts

Don’t forget, the Year 12 Breakfasts are running from 8.00 am to 8:25 am in the VCE kitchen area every Friday morning.

Well done to our captains for organising!

VCE GAT

The GAT is a test of general knowledge and skills in: Written Communication, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Humanities, the Arts and Social Sciences.

All students completing a Units 3 & 4 subject will need to complete the GAT, even if they completed the GAT in 2018 as well.

VCE GAT Preparation

On Wednesday 29 May, students will be attending GAT preparation sessions;

Year 11 students - Periods 1 and 2

Year 12 students - Periods 3 and 4

In these sessions, students will learn key strategies and skills that they can apply when completing a range of tasks in the GAT.

VCE Points

All students in Year 11 and 12 are reminded to see their Home Group teachers or a VCE Coordinator to update their points tally for 2019.

VCE students gain points for all sorts of reasons; academic achievement, social service, music, sports, leadership, etc. You are then recognised for this at awards ceremonies, being presented with the relevant badge.

School Captains

Tuesday 30 April, was the school’s Information Evening that provided parents and transitioning primary school children an insight into Lilydale High. Ms Powson, presented the extensive benefits of an education at this school and explained the transition process,. The Year 7 Captains detailed the start of their high school journey.

After we, the School Captains gave our speech on what high school is like, the school uniform was flaunted with style. The audience was then transported to Ancient Egypt, as the talented cast of this year’s School Production, Aida performed ‘Dance of the Robe’.

The school opened their doors as artwork and projects were put on display for all attendees to see touring the school, accompanied by live music from the student band.

The night would not have been such a great success if it weren’t for those who helped.

Year 11 Captains' Report

♫ It’s beginning to look a lot like winter,

Everywhere you go.

If only it were Christmas Day

We’d be on holidays,

But look, exams and SACs say, “hello” ♫

It’s finally starting to feel like winter again, as we start reaching the middle of term, but knowing Melbourne weather, it’ll be summer again within the hour. This is the point where the work definitely starts piling up, so we hope that everyone can stay on top of it! Just try to keep your sanity while you’re at it.

We must say a big congratulations and thank you to the spectacular team behind 'Leading Ladies' for the amazing and hilarious show. It was great to see students that we see every day, perform just as though they were professionals. We hope that everyone that had the incredible opportunity to see it and came away feeling as inspired as us and proud of the caliber of performance from our school.

Congratulations is also in order for our Year 11 Business Management students who made an amazing $1,892.40 profit from their Market Day, all of which will be donated to various charities of choice.

Just last week, some of our Year 11’s began to plan this year’s Peer Support Camp for the Year 10’s and so far, it’s looking like an awesome experience. For those who don’t know what Peer Support Camp is, especially Year 10’s, well the only way to explain it is, that it’s indescribable.  It is a 3 day camp, run by Year 11’s for Year 10’s as a chance to strengthen bonds and let our walls down. It is a great chance to hear from some Year 11s about what VCE is really like and also develop some relationships with those who will be in VCE with you next year. We would highly recommend it and if you are interested, you can head over to Student Services for more information.

The Arts camp was held this week for many of our VCE students in the school’s Arts program. Their destination was Portsea in order to do a variety of activities related to the Art subject being studied. This camp would have provided them a time to prepare and work on their performances and folios.  We hope everyone had a good time and hopefully, everyone had fun being involved in Art,  outside of school.

The school’s Centenary Open Day is being held this Saturday, from 10 am to 3 pm for the community to share in our celebrations. We would love to see you and your family on the day!  Many activities and food are being provided for everyone to enjoy.

Similarly, the long awaited Presentation Ball for many of our Year 11s is being held this Sunday.  We know how much time and effort has gone into the day and we hope that everyone has as much fun as possible. We all have created so many amazing and new memories that we can treasure forever.

IPT Term 2

The IPT schedule for Term 2 has been released to all VCE students on the Year 11 and 12 Google Classrooms, it is also available on the VCE noticeboards.

Make sure you check this carefully to see when your SACs are for the term and plan accordingly.

Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class,  there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 and 2.

Approving Absences

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
