Crows Clinic for the Yrs 5-7 Girls

On Friday 17th March,  the Adelaide Crows (Rory Sloane, Andy Otten, Jordan Gallucci, Paul Hunter and David Mackay) visited Largs Bay School and ran a football clinic for the yr 5-7 girls. Last year we entered girls teams in a 9-a-side competition and we are planning to do so again in term 2 this year.

The girls had a fantastic time learning new skills. Thanks to Scott Prebble from the Eagles for arranging the clinics.

SAPSASA State Swimming

After a fantastic effort winning the Port SAPSASA swimming carnival, many of our students continued their good form into the State Carnival.

Congratulations to Jack N, Jackson C, Eliza G, Jake A, BJ, Willis, Naish, Sarah, Matilda and Hunter who all competed. Special mention to Hunter A. He won a silver medal in breaststroke and Sarah who won bronze in the backstroke event. Many of our swimmers also won medals in various relay events.

SAPSASA Softball

8 of our students have been selected in the Port SAPSASA Softball team and will compete in the State SAPSASA Softball Championships in week 10 of this term. It’s great to see so many of our students taking up the opportunity to represent our school and our district. Well done, Caitlin, Holly, Matilda, Charli, Kiarna, Milla, Asheigh and Klaudia.

Port District Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday March 28th 45 athletes represented the school at the SAPSASA Port Adelaide district athletics championships. This year saw a record number of 18 schools enter with over 750 students compete. Largs Bay athletes lived the school values of persistence, responsibility and respect throughout the day.

The team’s goal was to win the large schools division, a difficult task given West Lakes Shore has won it for 25 years in a row. The team did well but we fell short, finishing second to WLS 118 to 90, the point’s gap is closing each year.

There were some outstanding individual performances, these four athletes will represent the Port Adelaide district at the metro championships in September.

Marcus Q – 1st 100m, 200m, 800m & relay

Amelie B – 1st 100m, 200m, 3rd High Jump & 2nd relay

Ava P – 1st shot put, 2nd discus

Jake  A  - 1st LJ, 3rd high jump

Congratulations to our other place getters: Sam, Naish, Hunter, Ava T, Brody, Eliza, Electra, Wyatt and several relay teams.

Milo T20 Blast

Mr Burge has recently taken students to a Milo T20 Blast competition. Although they didn’t win the carnival and advance to the next round, one team was undefeated and missed the opportunity by score aggregate.

Sailing – Sporting Schools

Students in year 5-7 have recently completed a 3 week sailing programme. The programme was fully funded by an Australian Government Sporting Schools Grant. Approximately 20 students participated in afterschool lessons, taught over 3 weeks. Thank you to the sailing coordinator, Peter Fewings. I have included the feedback that Peter sent through.

“Thank you from the Largs Bay Sailing Club as Largs Bay School’s partner to deliver the Sporting Schools Sailing program to your students. The Club really enjoyed hosting the program and we are very pleased with the way it went. The students enthusiastically engaged in the activities, were very well behaved and we really appreciated the involvement of  staff and the students parents / carers. A number of participants have already joined the Saturday morning learn to sail "Tackers" program and a number of other parents have indicated that they intend to enrol their children in the program when we recommence next October after our winter break.”

Bike Ed

Bike Ed has continued on Fridays this term for our year 4 & 5 students. Each week students have been taught basic bike riding techniques, bike safety and are currently learning road rules and how to ride safely on the road.

SHARK CUP

"The Zone"

Over the past five weeks, year 6/7 students from ‘The Zone’ have taken part in a baseball training program run by specialist baseball students from Seaton High School. Students learned all baseball skills, including batting, pitching, catching, running bases and fielding. To summarise their learning, students spent Friday the 24th of March competing in the ‘Shark Cup’ baseball tournament at Seaton High School. This tournament consisted of many of the local primary schools, with Largs Bay being lucky enough to enter three teams.

The most pleasing part of the whole day was the level of sportsmanship that was shown by all Largs Bay students. There were so many encouraging comments, high fives and cheers shared throughout the day. Students also pushed themselves to step outside of their comfort zones. Some students, like Hamish, Charli and Jude, had never pitched before but managed to pitch out an opponent at least once, while Brody, Naish and Dom also shone as pitchers. Taiga, Tyson and Jake all hit home runs, while Milla and Brad stood out in catcher, which did seem daunting at the beginning. Madi, Avah and Jude won Most Valuable Players for the Largs Bay squads. Every single participant challenged themselves and gave the whole day their very best. Awesome work on trying something new, I could not have been a prouder teacher!
