Spring is Here

Spring is here and with it comes hayfever and allergy season. If your child has a recently diagnosed allergy and requires medication for hayfever or asthma, please contact the office so we are able to better support your child.

Remembrance Day

Scoresby Secondary College paid its respects on the 100th anniversary of the great war armistice on Friday 9 November.  The College was represented by Year 11 student Erwin Diesta at the State RSL Remembrance Day service  at Springvale Crematorium on Sunday 4 November.  Local, state and federal members of parliament, Senior Defence Force Officers and other dignitaries also attended.

Staff Leadership

Leading and Learning together - the Strategic Leadership Team worked off-campus on Wednesday this week for a 2019 Planning Day.  As part of the Leadership Development Program that I offer at the school we conduct these planning days for all teams, in addition to our leadership programs which include leadership coaching with experts, emerging leaders programs and other professional learning.  It was a productive day and I was impressed by the high level of engagement, rigour and achievements of what is becoming a high performing team to drive the goals and priorities of our next strategic plan.

Teaching and Learning

The staff at the College are to be commended on their professionalism and commitment to student improvement with the final delivery and assessment of coursework at all year levels. It is a busy assessment and reporting period.  Testing at Years 7 to 9 and examinations for Years 10 and 11 provide students an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the skills and knowledge they have covered over the course of the year. It also provides valuable data on the level to which we have delivered our guaranteed and viable curriculum. Next week the Head Start Program commences for Years 10 into 11 and Years 11 into Year 12.

Next Tuesday we have next year’s Year 7 parent information evening. The purpose of the evening is to welcome parents and carers of students entering Year 7 in 2019 and to provide an opportunity to establish connections with staff and other families prior to Orientation Day in December.
