Acting Principal's Report
I hope everyone had a nice break and enjoyed the time with their families.
Our last term has started! I hope it will be exciting and a great celebration for our children’s learning.
Kate’s News
I wanted to pass on the wonderful news that Mrs Gray had her baby during the school holiday. This is the message we received below:
It is with utmost delight that we welcome the arrival of Matilda Elizabeth Gray at 9:48 AM, Thursday 28th September, 49.75 cm long, 33.5 cm head circumference and 3.46 kg. Mother has recovered well and daughter has enjoyed some time socialising in the special care nursery. Matilda, every time we hug you or squish your tiny hands you will experience a transfer of love, simultaneously intensified and shared. Our vow is to guide you with peace, hope and love to meet your potential and we thank you for helping us meet our dreams. We thank our family and friends for their love and support over this journey, and offer our prayers and support for others chasing similar dreams.
Japan Trip
Our Japan Trip team arrived safely in Japan on Thursday on 12th October. They travelled to Kyoto by Shinkansen (bullet train), staying at a Ryokan (Japanese traditional hotel) as part of their adventure. The students are staying with a host family and enjoying the school life at Kuramochi Primary School. They are having an awesome time exploring the Japanese culture using their Japanese language skills. It is a great and real opportunity for them to use their skills after learning Japanese at school for so long. We are looking forward to hearing about their exciting journey and their courage in being away from their parents and family.
Reminder
I am writing to advise you that our school currently has a student who is receiving medical treatment for cancer. The student is actively involved in the school community and recovering from treatments and their side effects.
As this student has a compromised immune system and is more vulnerable to disease, it is important that you do not send your children to school if they are unwell. For example, if your child has an infectious disease (such as the measles, chickenpox or flu), your child should stay at home until they are no longer contagious. For more information about how long an illness is contagious, please contact your GP.
I would also appreciate it if you would notify the school immediately if your child has an infectious disease. This will allow us to notify the parents of our student with cancer, if necessary.
We appreciate your cooperation. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Footy Day Fundraising Outcome
We had Footy Day Fundraising on Friday 22nd September. SLC (Student Leadership Council) organized the event and $374 was raised. The money raised is to go to the Monash Children’s Hospital for cancer research. Thank you to Miss Caitlin Webb and her student council for organizing a great day.
Student’s Achievement
Nathan has performed a solo violin concert at the
Victoria Music Teachers Association (VMTA). He has got the good critique from an adjudicator.
Nathan also participated in a church orchestra. He enjoys both solo and group performances. Music has enhanced him in terms of confidence,
persistence, determination and dedication. Well Done, Nathan!
Katelyn had an exam last Wednesday (11/10/2017)
in the class of classical piano, 4th grade. She received an 'A' (pass with Honours). Well Done, Katelyn!
On 16th September, Chiara (5/6M) competed in
the 2017 National Club Gymnastics competition in Bendigo in Acrobatic Gymnastics.
Acrobatic Gymnastics incorporates elements of flexibility, balance, strength, tumbling, and dance.
Chiara competed as part of a trio in 2 choreographed routines (Balance and Dynamic) against 22 other trios from around Australia.
This was Chiara’s first major competition and it was an amazing achievement especially as her trio had worked together for less than one term.
Chiara started doing Acrobatic Gymnastics at the beginning of this year and was quickly promoted up to National Junior Squad level.
This week she has been invited to join the Senior State Squad. Well done Chiara!
On Friday 13th October, Zac Nathan (3/4N) was
very proud to be invited to a ceremony at Government House with his grandfather Peter Leffler who was recognised for 47 years of service with St John Ambulance.
After the ceremony, Zac was very excited to meet the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, who was very friendly and asked him lots of questions about school and what he wants to be when he grows up.
Hats On!
As the weather has become quite summery, it is a timely reminder that all students and staff need to have a sunsmart hat for all outside activities during this Term.
Have a lovely weekend

LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES
The lunchtime activities are back!
ICT – Coding club
The ICT room will be open on Wednesday during lunch time to provide children in Grades 3 to 6 the opportunity to learn about “Coding”. This is one of our most popular lunch time activities with children queueing outside the ICT door eagerly waiting to learn how to code.
Lego Club
The lunchtime Lego club keeps our young creative brains at work and provides the opportunity for the students to build their own creations. This activity always creates active discussion among the children and also helps develop creative thinking by allowing the children to solve problems in teams. If you’re into creative play, come along to Lego club.
Mindfulness session
Practising breathing exercises helps young minds feel emotional balance through the mindfulness meditation activities. These activities are not only designed to build happier, healthier and compassionate children but also to install a positive self-awareness and esteem. Why don’t you come and join!
Chess club
Do you like playing chess? The Chess club is another popular activity at school. We have chess captains to show you how to play chess. It is another great way to develop problem solving skills. Unleash your originality and be creative with chess!
Library
It is great to see students enjoying reading their favourite books in English and Japanese.
All activities start at 1:40pm andfinish at 2:05pm in allocated rooms and areas.
