Sports Update
NSWPSSA Cross Country
Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions the NSWPSSA Cross Country, which was to be held this Friday at Eastern Creek has been postponed. We keep Mary Arandale and Fletcher Barratt in our prayers as they overcome the disappointment of this postponement, but also as they continue to prepare for their cross country race when it is rescheduled. Their hard work and dedication to preparing for this event hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Athletics Carnival
At this stage our annual School Athletics Carnival will be going ahead on Friday 23rd July 2021. However, I am working on the final arrangements. It is important to note that the carnival may occur in a slightly different capacity in order to comply with Covid-19 guidelines. All school sport guidelines have always been, and will continue to be guided by the NSW Health advice. We have not been advised how long these current guidelines will remain in place. The most important thing to remember here is that the children are actually getting the opportunity to compete. Last year many students, in many sports, were deprived of this opportunity thanks to Covid-19. I am pleased that we can continue to provide these opportunities for the students but it does come with new guidelines that we must adhere to.
The following is a list of events that will be completed prior to the carnival:
Event | Date | Location | Who | Additional Information
High Jump | Friday 16th July | School | 8/9/10 Years catch up 11 Years Boys & Girls 12 Years Boys & Girls | Please bring a change of clothes and joggers.
1500m time trial | Monday 19th July | GIPS | Eligible students only | This event is only for those students who pre-nominated using the criteria last term.
Shot put & discus | Thursday 15th & 22nd July | School | Various primary age groups | Some field events will be completed prior to the carnival as per our usual practice. This will occur at school during sport time. |
Thank you to the many parents who had offered to assist during the preparation sessions and at the carnival. We will no longer be requiring parents for the Thursday sessions. For those parents who have offered to assist on the day of the Carnival, I will send home separate information early next week.
I am requiring some additional helpers for ‘age marshalls’. Please phone the office and let Mrs Willis know if you’re available to assist in this role. Additionally, please let me know if your circumstances have changed and you are no longer available to assist.
These dates are pending any Covid changes and the weather.
Armidale Diocesan Cricket Trials
Best of luck to Emily Pietsch, Tom Pietsch, Thomas McHarg, Patrick Wright and Harrison Bailey who will participate in the Armidale Diocesan Cricket Trials in Tamworth next Monday. Thank you to Miss McMeniman for being the Girls' Team Manager for the Diocesan Team. We wish them all the best.
