Year 8

Welcome back

Year 8 students receiving their Certificate of Excellence

showing respectful, responsible and successful behaviour across all subjects (2020)

Online learning

Let’s go back to 2020 when our current Year 8 cohort only had a glimpse of what Cecil Hills High School was all about before having to quickly learn how to adjust, prepare and engage with learning from home on their devices. Students were only just getting to know each other, forming friendships, and absorbing the high school culture when they had to switch to something nobody had experienced before. They successfully adapted and were given consistent praise for their great efforts and determination to make the most out of a difficult situation.

This term, facing the same circumstances, Year 8 has continued to display a positive attitude towards their online learning. Students are engaging with their teachers and peers, producing high quality classwork, and encouraging others to stay positive.

During the first week of Online Learning, Mr Lane, Miss Cupac and Mr King met with Year 8 daily via Microsoft Teams to ensure that all students were prepared for their lessons. These meetings gave all Year 8 students the opportunity to ask questions and engage with their Year Advisers, Deputy Principal and peers.

Week 2 consisted of creating daily challenges for students to take part in, with the chance to win some prizes! It was great to see so many students take on these challenges and really engage with the rest of the cohort. Mr Lane even got to show off his super fancy wig for one of the challenges, in hopes of winning the grand prize! Year 8 is yet to decide whether he has the craziest hair of them all!

We look forward to creating some more exciting challenges, hearing even more positive feedback from teachers, and seeing all of Year 8 further engage in their Online Learning experience.
