Parent/Carer and Student Year 11/12 2022 Information Evening - TONIGHT!!!

This evening is for all Grade 10 and Year 11 students and parents/carers

An information evening will be held TONIGHT - Wednesday 23rd June - 7:00-8:30pm. (Grade 10 students had an introduction to the TCE session in Pastoral Care last week.) All Parents/Carers and students are invited to attend. Further information on 2022 Year 11 and 12 courses available at Southern Christian College will be provided on the evening, as well as the opportunity to meet the teaching staff and receive the Year 11/12 Student Subject handbook.


DP/TCE News

TCE - Reminder! - Year 11/12 Information Evening tonight 7:00-8:30pm.

 

TCE Exams - Year 11 students will be sitting mid-year examinations in Term 3 Week 1 - Wednesday 21- Friday 23 July. Details will be provided to students in the last week of term including the 'Guidelines for Sitting TCE examinations'. Those students sitting examinations will have study/revision time during classes on Tuesday 20 July.

 

Year 11/12 Mid-Year Reports - Will be issued to parents on Friday 2 July. Parent Interviews will be conducted the first week of Term 3. Details for booking interviews is included on the General Notices page of this newsletter.

 

DP - DP students are working to complete the final drafts of their TOK and Extended Essays which are due at the end of term. Students have made progress on the completion of internal assessments for courses with only a few subjects where these will need completing early in Term 3.

Secondary Swimming Program

SCC has a long history of providing a secondary swimming program aimed at encouraging our students to swim and survive, develop fitness, and improve confidence to engage in further water-based activities. This year we are aligning our swim program more closely with the HPE curriculum. The statement of inquiry for this unit of work is: 

Development and refinement of swimming knowledge, skills and fitness can improve safety and confidence to engage in water-based activities.

 

What

  • A 9-day HPE swimming unit of work culminating in the swimming carnival
  • 30min sessions under the instruction of qualified swim teachers with a focus on improving skill, technique, performance, and endurance in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and possibly butterfly as an extension.

Where

  • The Hobart Aquatic Centre

When

  • Term 3, Week 1 and 2 (20-23 July and 26-30 July)
  • Secondary Carnival: Monday 2nd August

Assessment

  • Criterion C: Applying and Performing

Uniform and swimming items

  • HPE uniform
  • SCC house-coloured swim caps are to be worn for the carnival and can be purchased from the Uniform Shop (see further details on the General Notices page of this newsletter)
  • Towel and waterproof bag
  • Bathers (girls bathers: modest one-piece, no bikinis)
