Eclipse House News

When I began the role of Head of House this year in Eclipse, I was not sure what to expect. There was plenty of excitement, joy, anxiety for the year ahead and of course some nerves. I  would first like to thank all the students in Eclipse. Your welcoming and active nature has made for a very enjoyable year. I have enjoyed supporting and getting to know the many personal pursuits and goals you have. Secondly, thank you to the families in Eclipse. You have placed a great deal of trust in me in supporting your child through their schooling journey. Thank you for the support and I hope I have made the 2022 boarding year enjoyable for all. I look forward to working with you all next year. Lastly to the staff in Eclipse, Mr Samuel Forward, Mrs Peta Spinks, Mr Harry Tanner, Miss Carter Wight, Miss Georgia Cabot, Mr Lincoln Cook and Ms Vanessa Bromhead. Thank you for all you do.

What a year! Eclipse boarding house has been full of many great moments. We have welcomed new staff members, boarders, friends and family. We have managed the constant linger of COVID with calmness. Enjoyed many recreation pursuits and worked hard throughout the year on our academic pathways. Eclipse is constantly active and managing unpredictable moments with our house values in mind, has been our greatest strength. The students have demonstrated kindness, respect, gratitude, grit and developed their growth mindset to be at the forefront of all pursuits.

Recreation

Crossnet, surfing, fishing, golf, piano, guitar, town runs, baking and waffle making, bike riding, basketball scrimmages and chess are just a few of the recreation pursuits currently in Eclipse.

When the sun is out, the Eclipse boarders are moving and active. Brain breaks have been a common theme this term, mostly in the form of Crossnet. It has supported those studying, providing a great balance to the day. Staff look forward to continuing to provide a mixture of recreation and joining in on the fun.

Exams

I congratulate all the Eclipse boarders on their diligence, hard work and grit during their exam periods. It was fantastic to see many boarders utilising Josh Carson, Academic Support, and their peers for support. It created a culture valuing academic work ethic and working as a team. We look forward to congratulating them on their results and supporting them in future work.

For those on a different pathway, Mitchell Hawley, Daniel Fisher, Darcy Barrett, and Jack Carlson. They have demonstrated outstanding growth and achievement through TAFE, Workplace and Business, already earning themselves Certificates II or III in their chosen fields. Well done!

Birthdays

Our last birthday for the year was celebrated by Steven Wiech.  Steven turned 16 and gained his learner's permit the same day.  Well done and happy birthday.

Holiday Challenge

Over the holidays, I challenge Eclipse boarders to spread the house values of kindness, gratitude, and grit to the community around them. Take a photo, print, and write a small blurb on the back that describes one or all three house values. On returning we will share these with everyone over dinner and place them in Eclipse House for the year.

Lastly, get outside, unplug, be with nature and spend valuable time with family. I look forward to welcoming you back in 2023.

I wish all families a happy and safe holiday period.
