SAKG NEWS

As the year draws to a close final kitchen and garden classes are occurring, taking on a festival vibe.  Students from Grades 3-6 are busily making Christmas cupcakes, Christmas layered salad, potato gnocchi with sage, garlic and burnt butter sauce, and beetroot tarts with goats cheese and thyme.  The younger years are baking a favourite - choc chip cookies.  All these dishes are being thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Out in the garden, students have been very helpful by cleaning the chicken pen, caring for the guinea pigs, playing Jenga, potting sunflower and marigold seeds to take home, watering and tying straw on frames above plants to keep away the birds.

At this week’s school assembly, names of several students were drawn out and awarded a prize for our final “DO GOOD FEEL GOOD” raffle. This raffle acknowledges all those students who have either volunteered their time in the garden over recess or lunchtime or have been identified as a garden star during classes.  Successful recipients go to Chloe H, Ruby L, Jade W & Mason S of 5A and Oliver A of 5C, for student volunteer awards, and Jaxxon R & Lily P of 5B, Hunter C of 5A and Amy D, Kaylee R and Molly S of 5/6 for garden class awards.  Well done to those students and thankyou to all those whose names were in the raffle.

Just a reminder about our annual SAKG Christmas raffle.  Last week raffle ticket sheets were sent home with the eldest sibling from each family. Dawn, one of our amazing volunteers, has kindly made and donated a beautiful Christmas cake which would be a great addition to Christmas day.  It, along with a Bunnings hamper, fruit tree and potted plant are all up for grabs.  Tickets are $1 each and the raffle will be drawn at our final school assembly, on Friday 16th December.  Please have your tickets and money returned by next Monday 12th December.  We would greatly appreciate any support so please jump on board and get your tickets.

And lastly, being the final two weeks of term, we are also calling out to any families who would like to host our guinea pigs over the upcoming holidays.  Likewise, if we have any volunteers to pop in and feed the chickens and do some watering, it would be greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in either, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Ruddick or Mrs O’Brien and we can arrangements.
