Welcome to IPS

Our End of Year Picnic is tomorrow night (Friday the 2nd of December from 5pm to 8pm).

We understand it's not always possible to get a picnic dinner together so we have two food trucks booked: one selling Japanese/Korean food and one selling gelato.

Our wonderful canteen will be open for simple fare like cannings sausages, hot dogs, pizza and party pies.

The rest is up to you (BYO rug / chairs etc). The weather looks promising. We'll have some music playing. Please keep an eye on your own children so any teachers or staff attending can be off duty and mingle too. Please take your rubbish home or use the bins provided but don't overflow them as the birds will make a mess of the grounds for Monday. :-)

Thank you for your support and I hope to see you there.

PACER Grant

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.

To assist families and schools  in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributed funding of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the camp and was factored into the cost of attending the camp.

Fresh from the Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra

A group of Year 6 students, teachers and parents from Ivanhoe Primary School, Victoria visit Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra.

On 9th of November 2022, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Ambassador of Thailand received a group of Year 6 students, teachers and parents from Ivanhoe Primary School, Victoria, led by Mr. Mark Kent, Principal at the Sala Thai Pavilion, Royal Thai Embassy, Canberra.

The visit to the embassy is part of the school’s study visit to Canberra. Ambassador Busadee and Embassy officials introduced Thailand and the Loy Krathong Festival. The students also took part in the traditional way of celebrating the festival. They also learned other cultural activities as well as tasted Thai street food and Thai desserts.

Teachers work on the very complex task of creating classes.  Teachers and education support staff have input into how classes are made up, taking into consideration students telling us who they work well with in the classroom.  That information, along with information from reports and assessments, ensure classes are inclusive and fair.

Children will meet their new teachers and classmates on Wednesday the 14th of December.

IPS Election Day BBQ - Fundraiser & Stalls

The PFA ran a fundraising BBQ on election day. 1676 people voted, which was 1800 down on the federal election. However, the profit was $3935! Thank you Cannings for the deal on the sausages and Miles real estate for financially supporting the fundraiser.

On behalf of IPS: thank you to the PFA, particularly Serge Barshtman and the team of parents, as well as the teachers and staff who flipped eggs and bacon and turned hundreds of sausages.

Canteen News

Single-use plastics make up a third of the litter in our streets and waterways. They remain in the environment for a long time, harming our wildlife and contaminating our food and water. This ban will also help reduce plastic waste and contamination at recycling facilities.  Read more on the Single-use plastics ban page of this edition of Inside Ivanhoe.
