The Adventures of Frankie & Ash
School Support Dogs
It's a very exciting time as our Dogs Connect Program (led by Stephanie Villani, Youth Worker) kicks off officially. We will be looking at how Frankie and Ash can help promote positive wellbeing in the school.
Once the Wellbeing Hub is open we will be arranging two lunch times per week for students to be able to join us for 'Pats and Chats' as a nice starting point for our students to work with the dogs and be introduced to our new space. One session will be open for year 7 only and the other open to every year level - a very exciting step!
Trigger warning: medical procedure
So this week it is me (Ash) letting you all know what's been happening because Frankie is a bit poorly. When Mum and Dad were away Frankie got an ouchie on her paw and our friend Claudia who looks after us took her to see the doctor. I did not get to go but I did get treats when they got back.
Frankie's ouchie did not get better though and she didn't want to play or anything. When Mum and Dad got back they took Frankie back to the doctor and they looked very serious when they got home. They told everyone that Frankie's toe had to be amputated because it was not getting any better and it was making her cry.
On Monday Frankie was at the doctor's all day and I was at school all day. I got lots of pats and treats and I hope Frankie did too because she has been very sad.
When she came home she was very very sleepy and she had a big white and pink bandage on her paw. She didn't want to play fetch or tug of war or anything.
She still has the big white and pink bandage on her paw but she isn't nearly as sleepy now and she even played tug of war with me yesterday.
I don't think it's a bad thing that Frankie has to have nasty white tablets because she gets cheese with them and so I get cheese too. I don't have any nasty white tablets. I think Frankie is a bit stupid because even though the cheese has nasty white things in, she still eats it really really fast.
Because Frankie has to "rest" I get to go to school with Mum every day. This is a good thing.
Mum and Dad say that Frankie and me are very very expensive dogs but they love us anyway.
Mum says Frankie will be all better soon and then we can go back to the park and the lake.
That is all.
