Farewell 2022

Finally, the curtain closes on another chapter of Wantirna College with the 2022 year drawing to a close!

This week started with our Year 12 VCE students receiving their final results. Overall, our results were pleasing with our VCE mean study score the highest we have recorded since 2018 and the number of students who made the honour roll (ATAR >90) increasing by 20%.

Our college dux for 2022 is Tain Corless, who received an ATAR score of 96.35. It’s been a big year for Tain who was also one of our leads in the school production of “Be More Chill”.

I would also like to recognise Sunny Kang who received a perfect score of 50 in Health and Human Development. Well done to Tain, Sunny and all of our Year 12 students (VCE and VCAL) who completed a highly successful final year.

I would like to also reflect and recognise the enormous contribution of our volunteers who have served us so well this year. Whether they be members of College Council, Parents of Performing Arts (POPA), reading and library volunteers, production crew, this list goes on and on, thank you to all who have helped our school and our community deliver outstanding programs for our students.

A big thank you to our incredible staff, both teaching and non-teaching. Despite there being no lockdowns this year, I would not describe this year as being a return to normal. However, our staff have pushed through and continued (against all odds) to do their best, day after day and, on behalf of the whole college community, I hope they enjoy their well-earned break.

As usual at this time of year, we are also saying goodbye to staff who are off to chase new challenges or take some leave. In particular, I would like to farewell the following staff who will not be returning, Emily Lewis, Phuong Le, Yubo Qiu, Katherine Allen, Robert Johnson, Simon Kearney, Jonathan Skovron, Trevor Barkla, Kathy Nguyen, Wendy Macphie, Krystal Shaw, Dot Roberts, Sandra Middleton, Jess Quinn, Sharni Arthur, Jamie Beovich, Lynda Marks, Tom Barter, Michelle Dang, Alex Shephard, Julie White and Chris Leunig. We wish those staff members all the best with the next steps of their journey.

To everyone, have a great Christmas, enjoy the holidays and I will see most of you back for a bigger and better 2023!
