Year 7 Canoe Education

Throughout 2022, our Year 7s have been provided with opportunities to participate and various outdoor education activities including bike riding and canoeing. These help to prepare the students for future outdoor education adventures including the Year 8 Challenge Week and Year 9 Challenge Camps. Across Term 4, each Year 7 class experienced a fun filled day at Lillydale Lake were they were taught numerous paddle and water skills whilst also learning about their local environment. After many weather delays we finally got through them all with minimal capsizes from both students and staff!

As always, these experiences could not be done without the support and cooperation of the staff members who attend these days. We would like to extend a big thank you to each staff member who attended one (or multiple) excursions. In particular, we would like to thank our four courageous canoe instructors – Kim Graham, Daniel Brooks, Matthew Burleigh and Harriet Robertson – for their expertise and guidance across these days. We quite literally could not have gone ahead without your patience and leadership and we sincerely thank you.

A massive thank you as well to students and parents for your patience and cooperation with the numerous reschedules and rain delays. We appreciate all your support.

‘I liked canoeing because we all got to have fun. We also got to do kayaking, which by itself was really fun. Everyone splashed each other, which made us all laugh. I really enjoyed canoeing.’ Alex Lee, Year 7

‘Canoeing was an exciting and educational excursion that allowed me to work on my teamwork skills as well as bond with my classmates’  Chelsea Turner, Year 7

‘The canoeing was fun and we got to spend time with friends and improve our teamwork. It was fun when we got to swim in the water.’ Noah Palmer, Year 7

‘I had a ton of fun and exercise. I got to partner up with a friend and use teamwork on the canoes and also got the chance to get closer to my peers in break time and at game on the lake. It was a very hot day as well with no clouds so I got a sock tan, but most others did as well’

Mia Kim, Year 7
