Student Health and Wellbeing

Welcome onboard Khush and Tilly!

Hello there!

My name is Khush and I am an international student completing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Monash University. Since childhood I was not only keen on studying about human nature and people but was also keen on interacting with new people. The unpredictability, graveness and wiring of every mind being different is what interested me most about this field. Communication is key to every relationship and my life’s value is nothing but the relationships I have with people. Thus, I decided that in order for me to be successful and happy in this journey of pursuing Psychology as a career, I need to understand the basics, to know the root of the human mind and everything that influences it and what better way to explore than with children and their developing minds which are filled with so much curiosity and magic! Since Psychology is a reflective field of study, I realized my craving for real human interaction and management that goes beyond just academics.

I am delighted to be starting my placement with Caulfield Junior College and connecting with the faculty members that inspire these children to realize their highest potential and achieve their dreams! I will be working at Caulfield Junior College on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Please contact Shauna Sanderson if you would like your child to start counselling sessions or if you have any questions.

Hello! My name is Matilda, you can call me Tilly.

I am a final year psychology student studying at Deakin University. I have 2 subjects left to complete to finish my degree, which I aim to complete by June this year. I am originally from Wangaratta, Vic and relocated to Melbourne in 2020 to study.

My main motivator to pursue a psychology degree is my passion for understanding the brain and behaviour. In 2022, I worked as a Behavioural Therapist with children with different social, cognitive and emotional needs. My main learning from that is that all behaviours are a form of communication, and some children just need the right tools to help communicate in an effective manner.

I aim to begin my masters degree in 2024, but in the mean time I am so excited to work at Caulfield Junior College on the Wellbeing Team. I look forward to meeting and working with both the students and parents of CJC.

What is the respectful relationship program?

The Respectful Relationships whole-school approach recognises that schools are a workplace, a community hub and a place of learning. Everyone involved in our school community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally.

We know that changes in attitudes and behaviours can be achieved when positive attitudes, behaviours and equality are lived across the school community, and when classroom learning is reinforced by what is modelled in our school community.

Taking a whole-school approach is about embedding a culture of respect and gender equality across the entire school community. This approach leads to positive impacts on students’ mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.

The Respectful Relationships learning covers eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning across all year levels at our school:

  • Emotional Literacy
  • Personal strengths
  • Positive Coping
  • Problem Solving
  • Stress Management
  • Help Seeking
  • Gender and Identity
  • Positive Gender Relationships.

In 2023 the Respectful Relationships program will be taught at CJC alongside the Resilience Project in our weekly SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) time.

Here is an example of ways we can further help our community to break down stereotypes and the language we can use to help support our children.

Words carry important messages...
