ASPS Parents Association Committee Report 2022

With the easing of restrictions in Term 1 2022, the PA was thrilled to be able to gradually re-introduce events to our school calendar. Term 1 started off with an informal Prep Welcome Play at Anderson Park on 2nd February (in lieu of the usual morning tea at school), and an exciting Fun Run on 29th March with a more environmental conscious approach to prizes (i.e., donation to a cause) led by Ying Gu and a Year 2 Event Team.

In Term 2, the Prep Parent Reps organised a Prep Parents Night on 28th April at a local venue to enable new parents to mingle. The Mothers’ Lunch Celebration on 4th May was held at Kooyong Tennis Club and well attended. Thank you to Beck Cattermole, Liz Passador and team. The inaugural Dads’ Night Out on 12th May was an absolute sensation, held on site at SAKG with handmade pizza freshly cooked in the pizza oven. What an incredible effort by the Dads’ Event Team led by Simon McCarthy, Luis Alvarenga, Bret Harper, Raymond Issac, Gino Falcone and Travis Kluckhenn. The federal election BBQ on 21st May welcomed the local community on site and PA raised some funds for our school through the ever popular Democracy sausage sizzle and a bake sale.

The Disco Year 2-3 team team (Susie White, Melanie O’Halloran, Kari Orbea, Jasmin Chin, Alexa Delbosc and Emily Sloan) mentored by Annie Strauch, brought the dancing back into our school hall with a Jungle Themed School Disco in Term 3 on 9th September.

Unprecedented wet weather in Term 4 and ongoing constructions on the school site meant that Trivia Night had to be postponed to 2023.

With an outstanding deposit from our 2020 Fair with Action Events, a School Picnic with a carnival twist was planned for Term 4. The Year 4-5 team led by Kitty Lawless, Jane Khoo, Jemima Collins and Leigh Oakhill, worked through a multitude of logistical issues with the support of Michael Wainwright and Millie Angliss to bring the event to fruition. We had an incredible group stall leaders on the token booth, BBQ, popcorn, fairyfloss, pizzas, icy poles and donuts stalls (Kim Apswoude, Pippa Purport, Amy Chen, Baijie Zhuang, Chloe Quinn, Georgina Perry and Judy Wang). Despite some rain on 28th October, the kids were delighted to see Marcus Wicher, Jenny Frayne and Emily Hui being such good sports on the dunk tank.

Jane Khoo mentored a small Prep Event Team (Mei Lee, Clare Kwok and Jack Wang) to organise the Prep Transition Welcome Morning Tea (11th November) and Welcome Bags. The state election BBQ (26th November) raised more funds for the school with thanks to willing and enthusiastic sausage turners and bakers.

We wrapped up Term 4 with a Volunteers Thank You Night (29th November), Year 6 graduation events (led by Year 6 Parent Reps) and End-of-Year Concert Food Stalls (13th December).
