Primary School

From the Head of Primary

Welcome to 2023! The Primary School has been alive with energy and it has been wonderful welcoming back our students and hearing about the amazing adventures they have been on since we farewelled them last year. A huge thank you to our incredible staff and dedicated parents who have invested their time and skills into preparing our students for the first day back. It was lovely to be welcomed into my new role by many of you already and I am thrilled to be a part of the team that nurtures and guides our students during their primary years. The Grammar community is something truly special about our school and really stood out as I watched the students interact with their peers and teachers, and parents catch up over a coffee on day one. We value the contribution everybody makes in developing our youngest members of the school.

As we begin the new year, I extend a warm welcome to the returning and many new families who join our GSG community this year. Please feel comfortable contacting either your child’s classroom teacher or myself if you have any questions as you settle into the first term. To new colleagues in the Primary School, Ms Steinert teaching Year Four and Ms Laneaux-Neale teaching Year Five, I wish you a fulfilling year ahead working with students, families and colleagues.

Horizons

This is set to be an exciting year with the continuation of innovative programmes alongside the introduction of new ones. The Horizons programme will commence in Week Two on Wednesday 8 February with an incredible array of cocurricular offerings for our Primary School students. Horizons is coordinated by our hardworking Health and Physical Education teacher Mr Stephen Berryman and is facilitated by our talented teaching staff who share their skills and interests with our students from 3.30pm to 4.30pm each Wednesday. Students are collected after school by Mr Berryman, given the opportunity to eat their afternoon tea and relax before commencing their chosen activity at 3.30pm. Parents are asked to collect the students at 4.30pm from the Primary School lunch area or students can catch the late bus. More information on our cocurricular offerings and the form to sign up for Horizons have been emailed to our Primary School families.

Grammar Playgroup

Grammar Playgroup (formally Kalgan Playgroup) is set to begin on Monday 6 February (9.00am to 11.00am) in our Kindy classroom. This year our wonderfully talented Education Assistant Mrs Kym Clifford is taking the reins and will offer a truly amazing experience for all who wish to attend. The invitation is open to families from our school and the wider community to come and enjoy some adult conversation whilst the children engage in some pre-prepared fun.  If you have any queries please contact Community Relations Manager, Mrs Julia Bairsow or call 9844 0307.

Parent and Guardian Information Session

Date and Time: Friday 10 February 5.00pm

Venue: Multi-Purpose Sport Complex, followed by classrooms

We invite all families to attend an information evening commencing at 5.00pm followed by the P&F Sundowner from 6.00pm.

This year I would appreciate the opportunity to briefly speak with all Primary School families in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex at 5.00pm for 15 to 20 minutes prior to classroom teachers speaking with parents in their respective rooms. There are some general Primary School themes, information and introductions I would like to share before class teachers work through more specific information tailored to their classes.

For families unable to attend, session notes will be uploaded to MyGSG in the Primary School section within each cohort folder.

Class meetings have been organised in two sessions to try and ensure most families can attend. In the event of a clash, class teachers will be available outside of their session times to meet with you more informally and answer any questions you may have.

Session 1: 5.20pm to 5.40pm  for Djinda/Kindy, Pre-Primary, Year One and Year Five

Session 2: 5.40pm to 6.00pm – for Year Two, Year Three, Year Four and Year Six

There are many exciting adventures ahead this year and I look forward to communicating and connecting with you all.

Best wishes for the year ahead,

Mrs Leah Field | Head of Primary
