As we near the end of the 2022 school year, there is still much to look forward and so many wonderful activities still occurring.

In our Senior School assembly this week, I acknowledged students who had gone out of their way to make a difference. Our 2022 Year 10s were congratulated for the respectful and positive way they approached their first aid training. The facilitator, a regular visitor to our College commented on how much he enjoyed working with this group.

We received comment from the public about the lovely appearance and manners of a class who were visiting the Hamilton Art Gallery. Staff have commented on students who have said thankyou as they leave the classroom and who take time to say hello in the yard. These small but important acts make such a difference.

HIGHLIGHTS

We have had a number of highlights in our final full week of school:

Junior School Nativity Service – there is no doubt that this is one of the most special events of the year. Our ELC to Year 2 students told the story of Christmas in the Uniting Church, singing festive carols and waving to family members in the audience.

Junior School Public Speaking Competition – this week, two competitors from each House presented their two-minute speeches to the whole Myrniong campus. The speech topics varied from informative to funny and all eight students did a wonderful job. Congratulations to Ashraf in Year 6 who was the overall individual winner and to Berry House for taking out the Public Speaking Simons House Trophy (represented by Year 5 students Yolanda O’Sullivan and Evie Templeton).

Year 6 Graduation Dinner – our Myrniong graduates and family members shared in a special Graduation Dinner in the Refectory on Wednesday night. It was a lovely occasion which reflected on each student and the impact they have made during their time at College. There are seven families finishing their time at the Junior School and we wish all Year 6 students the best of luck as they move onto Senior School.

Basketball skills session – thank you to our Head of Basketball, Kira Ryan, who organised for a Basketball Victoria coach to visit College and held two busy afternoons of skills sessions. Over 80 students participated in the sessions, from 7 to 17 years old and the energy in the Sports Centre was fantastic.

Year 8 Camp – our Year 8s have finally made it on camp! The weather hasn’t been as kind as we hoped but the students have shown resilience and challenged themselves in the all the activities in Anglesea.

New students – it was wonderful to welcome our new College students onsite and have them participate in the Step Up program. I congratulate them on the way they have embraced the experience and how warmly they have been welcomed.

STAFFING UPDATE

Congratulations to Mrs Emily Hausler and Mrs Gabrielle Lanman who have been appointed as Learning Enhancement teachers. Both Emily and Gabrielle have considerable experience in the Learning support area and working together with Mrs Valetta Bolton, they will make a dynamic team.

We are also pleased to announce the appointments of Elizabeth Cvetkovski, Kylie Kithrig and Tzu Winstanley as Learning Support Assistants for 2023. We are thrilled to have such a very strong Learning Enhancement Team for 2023.

We are close to finalising all of our staffing and we are incredibly proud and excited with our 2023 appointments.

OLD FASHIONED SPORTS DAY

Remember parents and guardians, you are invited to the Old Fashioned Sports day on Tuesday next week. It is in the morning on the Myrniong Oval and we are hoping to field some adult teams – so come along and join in.
