SENIOR YEARS

What a great end of term. I have been so impressed with the Senior Years students stepping up into their next classes. The Year 12s have moved into the common room and have found having their own warm area a wonderful luxury. With this, though, comes the responsibility to look after the space and work together to make it functional and a happy place for the whole cohort. I have been incredibly impressed with the level of responsibility and care the new Year 12s have taken to ensure that it is not only clean but welcoming and cheerful. Well done to all of them for a great start to their final year at College.

The new Year 11s have all started their full VCE program. It has been so gratifying to watch them Step Up into their new classes and into subjects they have chosen. Students have been engaged and interested and have demonstrated an eagerness to learn new information and course structures.

The Year 10s are still getting used to the idea that they don’t move around the school with the same class members for each lesson. Having different combinations of students for each subject is exciting and changes the dynamics of the year level considerably. Classes are all based on subject choices, so the blockings are the deciding factor for class structures.

Last Friday all Senior Years students were involved in a range of activities designed to help them face the coming year with confidence. Mrs Dempsey ran a study skills seminar with hands on information about how to take notes, remember content and be organised. Mrs Silva ran drama and confidence building activities, designed for students to work across year levels and be able to develop self-assurance and faith in their own abilities. Darren Schreck of Schreck First Aid Training, ran a practical first aid course for the Year 11 students, with all of them passing the practical component of the course. Careers was the final session, and all students were introduced to the new Careers Platform that will be the basis for career conversations moving forward. MyCareers has been taken up by many schools as a program that allow students to explore ideas and courses based on their interests and abilities.

I would sincerely like to thank Mrs Bonnett for her superb organisation and Mrs Dempsey, Mrs Silva and Mrs Manifold for their time and expertise.

I wish everyone a safe and peaceful Christmas surrounded by the people you love and a wonderful holiday.
