Assistant Principal's Report

Mr Mark Henderson

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all Year 7 and Year 9 students for their high level of effort and impeccable behaviour in completing the NAPLAN testing earlier this term.

Students conducted themselves in a mature and helpful way, which made the administrative process a much easier one.

Thank you to Ms Dewhurst, Ms Holly Parlanti and the team for running the tests so smoothly.

Student Behaviour on

Social Media

UNOFFICIAL WESTALL PAGES

It has come to my attention that there are pages on Instagram that carry the Westall SC name and Westall SC logo, but are in no way related to the positive and well-followed official Westall SC account.

The content, themes and language used in posts on these pages are NOT in line with the Westall SC College values and could potentially damage the good reputation of the College online and further afield.

It is ILLEGAL (not to mention morally wrong) to use the name or logo of an organisation without seeking permission from the organisation to do so.

These pages have been reported to Instagram and will be shut down, but I would like to warn all students and members of the Westall community that any future pages that are created bearing the school’s name and/or logo and posted inappropriately will be reported to the authorities and may become a police matter.

As a community, Westall Secondary College has worked hard to build a strong reputation in the community as a safe and inclusive school and any actions by members of our community that seek to damage our reputation will be dealt with severely.

SAFE AND APPROPRIATE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

I would like to take this opportunity to commend the vast majority of our student body who interact positively and enthusiastically with the school’s social media accounts.

Social media is a powerful promotional tool and the liking/sharing of posts on the school’s pages has contributed enormously to increasing awareness of the College and the great programs we offer to prospective students and their families.

However, I must remind students that whilst you are interacting on social media and posting to your own profiles and ‘liking’ or tagging each other in posts and pages, you are building a ‘brand’ for yourself as an individual. A digital reputation.

The impression you create, or your digital footprint, is a permanent one and once something is put on to a social media platform, it is usually impossible to take back.

Every time you are going to comment, like, post, share, follow and so on, I want you to question yourself before you click the button. Is this good for my brand? Is this in line with my values? If you have any doubt about clicking the ‘post’ or ‘comment’ button, the chances are you shouldn’t click the button. Actions have consequences, so you need to be sure.

Here’s another test you can do. Ask yourself, what would my grandma say, about a particular post or comment you are about to make. If your grandma would disapprove, then it is probably not something you should be posting.

Food truck MasterChef –

Food Studies

Last week,  the Middle School Food Studies students created their food truck dishes for their CAT.

The competition was high and the quality of the dishes was amazing!!

Judges Ms Paget, Ms Lynette, Mr Lanarus and Mr Henderson we’re blown away!

All dishes scored a minimum of 4/5 but there were four stand-out dishes:

Chicken Karage wrap by Niko & Ron, Papaya salad from Swa Bay Da & Za Way, Korean soft tofu soup by Kim Leng Ear & Raska, Chilli beef burger by Zamia & Teiva

Well done to all involved 💙💛🤍
